Does Pepper Spray Work?

Anyone thinking about carrying this should get a shot in the face themselves. Chances are the wind won’t be in your favor and possibly in the rush you may be in to deploy it you may not have it pointed in the exact direction you wanted and some amount of spray will co tact you. We saw a little bit of this in the video where the lady spraying had some go up her nose. She had glasses on as well. If she didn’t she may have had some go in her eyes as well. I have been exposed to this stuff twice in training and it burns pretty good. The last thing you want to do is incapacitate your self in a bad situation.

2023-04-27 15:03:34 +0000 UTCI worked for the Dept. of Corrections for 30 years. When I started in 1985 we used CN & CS. Later we went to the newer pepper spray. As a supervisor I had a streamer and a fogger that i carried. For the most part it worked, sometimes even the threat of it worked. But, there is always that guy that you spray and he just eats it up and it doesn’t seem to bother that much. That was the worst situation because the staff is effected by it, but the inmate doesn’t seem to be bothered by it. Anyone who carried pepper spray had to go through a training, in which, you are sprayed by an instructor so you can feel what happens when you use chemical agents.

2023-03-17 04:48:49 +0000 UTCAnd if you work in an environment like the Coachella Valley in Southern California we deal with a lot of wind and there are times where you can’t deploy a non-lethal option via OC due to the fact that it’s not gonna hit your target it’s gonna spray all over the area that you and your partners are working in.
