CQB - Following Your Pistol

This video is to respond to Paul Garrison's questions. Hopefully this helps answer some of the what if's.

Situation will dictate approach and tactics.

Let me know what you think in the comments below.

This layout is very much like the hallway that leads to the bedrooms in the house that I live in and I train clearing the same two methods of slow and methodical and fast. Nice to see my training affirmed.

I'm learning a lot from these videos, for sure. I'd also recommend people go play paintball or airsoft at a place with some buildings and interior spaces. I picked up some of these principles and techniques over years of just not wanting to get shot in the back again by some kid hunkered down in a dark corner. A lot of the "It's situational" stuff also starts to make intuitive sense when there are actually other people maneuvering against you, and trying to figure out the best way to shoot you from the other end of the scenario.

Thanks again. It helps to go back and review. I'm headed to big lodge in Montana and boning up on structures, corners, entry etc.

We'll make a video on extended and retracted gun. 👊🏻

Shawn

😂Use it wisely!

Ditto the questions on gun from retraction, and seeing a threat when blowing past. Since a lot of the questions relate to home clearing, one comment I found helpful from the TR guys, that would be interesting to see your approach , is "Fight unfair, and use the home field advantage. You know where people could actually be". For example, my house has furniture in the "blind spots/corners" of most of the room making it obvious if someone was trying to hide there. It would be interesting to see how you'd 'set up' the office with the intention of maximizing your home field advantage. Maybe have the camera guy randomly open/close the doors before you run it and set up a fake bad guy, and use cardboard boxes to simulate furniture? It's been really helpful for me to hear your thought process.

Always sold info

Glad to hear it. All about the situation at hand. Hopefully this adds some more techniques to the toolbox.

Shawn

Weapons flow. We'll give that a go.

Shawn

Roger that. Cornerfed on the list.

Shawn

All about that real time processing. 👊🏻

Shawn

This was a big help. Our home has several doorways and a strange (difficult to clear alone) layout. I didn't consider charging across. Thanks!

I think a lesson(s) on foot/walking movement and hip movement tying into the weapon in the CQB context would be most helpful.

As always, thanks so much for the video Shawn! You may have already filmed this (and if so sorry for asking haha) but any chance you could someday do a video on entering a corner fed room? I was doing some active threat training today and the instructors were teaching to enter (if the door is on the left corner, room running down to your right, and you’re stacked up to the left of the door) to enter to the left, running the left wall (in other words, if you were standing in the door way you would just go straight, wall to your left) so if someone is hiding in the hidden close right corner, they’re having to shoot at target that’s moving (from their point of view) left to right, or lateral. Vs, doing an entry more like what you’ve shown a lot of, where you punch straight in, running the wall to inner right corner, which would be the most likely hiding spot. I think I’m confusing myself reading what I wrote, so I hope it makes sense 😂. Thanks again!

Hey Shawn, everything helps. It’s impossible to gift people with your experience, as cool as that would be. Your audience are people that are realizing that they may need to defend themselves & their loved ones from the same threats that you spent years confronting. No one should expect a clear ABC way to handle that chaotic situation, with all of it’s variables. You are extremely effective in explaining/showing the thought process one goes through while dealing with that kind of threat. Never stop. We, the average American, need this instruction. The noblest way that our veterans can serve our nation is by bringing their experience back & reintegrating that back into the civilian population. Thankyou, brother
