Nickel boys, Wicked, The Substance, and Sing were all better than Anora and that won the most awards…. Yeah I think I’m done watching and listening to the Oscars for a while now.

2025-03-07 05:02:48 +0000 UTC20:07 Mikey and the male lead both have expressed in interviews that they personally chose not to have an intimacy coordinator and felt comfortable just shooting the scene’s themselves. But I personally adored Anora and it’s bothering me that people are trying to make it this problematic thing just because they don’t like that it won or like the movie in general. You can not like it all you want, but like Kenya said, what you can’t do is say it was a bad movie. And then most of the people I see speaking on it, haven’t even watched the film and/or are just going off of twitter speaking points 💀 And I interpreted the ending as Ani’s release. Her life is so transactional down to her body and she thinks someone always wants something from her. But that moment in the car with Igor showed her something different and she was finally able to release all the pain she’d been holding in I also don’t know what was up with these award voters are thinking when it comes to Emila Perez. With the way it won awards this season you would think it was a fantastic film instead of the disrespectful garbage that it is lol

Like it’s not exactly something but it’s not nothing.

Added another layer of appreciation of how the movie is really ahead of its time. A true technical feat! I haven’t watched all the movies that were nominated for best picture. I have not watched Anora but watched other Sean Baker movies. I really loved the Florida Project.

Each year gets more boring and more boring with these award shows. And Stand up Nosferatu 🧛♂️🩸 🗡️and Dune 🏜️🐪girls we deserved better. 😭 I will never celebrate Adrien Brody‘s win. (Also fuck that pompous long ass speech he gave. That was a bathroom break for me) I don’t care how good his performance was. I don’t think he should’ve gotten another Oscar for this role, when he already played a semi similar role for The Pianist back in 2003. When The Brutalist first came out, i literally thought it was a sequel to The Pianist 😵💫☠️ so I never rooted for him at all. I’m sad Ariana Grande didn’t take home anything. I never thought she would ever get an Oscar, but I thought maybe she’d get at least one of the smaller awards. I’m not mad that Mikey won. I know the Internet is tearing her to shreds right now, but she was the saving grace of a rather mediocre film. I don’t think Demi Moore “out acted circles around her” the way social media is trying to claim, but I was rooting for Demi to win because this is an opportunity she will never get again in her life. Mikey will get more chances in the future so it sucks. I feel bad for both parties because this is Mikey’s moment however it’s being overshadowed about the fact that nobody is happy for her lol (not to mention the slut shaming which is not cool) and I feel bad for Demi because so many ppl were all rooting for her to win, so seeing her lose was such a big blow . but u know what , at the end of the day, my black ass is still gonna keep living . these whities keep getting awards after awards anyway . Call me when a black woman wins. 💅🏽

2025-03-04 01:39:58 +0000 UTCI didn't even attempt to watch any of the movies nominated for best picture, so I don't have much to say about them specifically. my main critique about movies in general lately is that they seemingly play in theaters only in NY/LA or (if they do play near me) they're only in theaters for 0.2 seconds before going to streaming or smth. I would've loved to see sing sing or nickel boys or even anora in theaters, but I'm simply not dedicated enough to travel to watch a damn movie or see it opening night bc I got other stuff to do!!! just grateful to never have to hear the name Em*lia P*rez ever again 🙏

2025-03-03 21:47:24 +0000 UTCI feel like I'm in the minority when I say Anora as a movie did not gag me by far. The yelling henchmen took up way too much of the movie and I felt how long it was. Plus the Vanya character was way more memorable than Anora herself. Idk who that actor was but his performance was so dynamic. You could never tell if he was joking or not, and his switch up at the end pulled me. Mikey's New York accent was so forced to me that I didn't get immersed at all, so idk why she got Best Actress. As for Demi, the mirror scene in The Substance was way more poignant than what Mikey was doing. Even Margaret Qualley as Sue made me pay attention, like in scenes when she was forced to smile, and the way she did the body horror at the end. That all showed more range to me. I already knew I wasn't going to care for watching the Oscars live so I didn't, but hearing the news afterwards reminded me how unserious it was.

I skipped through the first half of this summary which means I really want to see it and explore my own perspective first. That’s a good thing.

They just don't give a shit about anything innovated without being spoon fed and they definitely don't care about our stories. Sing sing should have been a show in for BP and especially sag ensemble! A movie about finding purpose through acting/art and the screen ACTORS guild just didn't care.

I said it accomplished what it set out to do, for better or for worse. I appreciate Anora for what it is, but it’s nothing to write home about. To the SW of it all, I want more diverse SW stories and I want movies (of depth) about the Johns. I felt the same about there not being an intimacy coordinator. My ears perked when she mentioned it in her Actors on Actors, but inclined to trust her when she says she was comfortable.
