Tyla discourse so boring just like the Emmys

Comments

tyla's parents are colored so its not exactly like Zendaya or tinashe. Colored people can be mixed people but they can also a stand alone ethnicity.

titi

"I'm tired of words not meaning anything" Yell it again!

B.Darling

in american terms she’s as black as zendaya or tinahse but in south africa where she’s from, mixed ppl are called colored which is why she said she isn’t black

Dymanni Lovell

Sameeee I used to love TV growing up, in high school and college. But ever since I started grad school and working, I don’t watch TV that much anymore. I miss those days! 😔

Dani

The Tyla discourse is so ridiculous like where is all of this coming from?! You either like her and her music or you don’t. People need to leave her alone already. I liked how she advocated for more South African artists on the VMAs. I’m not South African so it was nice to spread the love.

Dani

Is Tyla even black?? Or at least half black? And I mean this question genuinely because I’m so lost. After she said she wasn’t I took her word for it but then someone will say she isn’t black and they’d get jumped so I’m beyond confused. Anytime it even becomes a conversation because if the girl says she isn’t then what else is there to all this?

Gabriella

Omg! I thought I was the only one who was NOT feeling season 3 of The Bear. Still haven’t finished it, I’m like stuck at episode 4, it’s so incredibly boring now

Jina Jackson

No fr I need more TIP truthers 😭

Mariah L.

As a South African you’re correct. They can be so vile, I’m so sorry 😔

Thatgirlcoco

Okay twin, I just wore my On the Run (I) tour shirt yesterday

jaleel

And The Bear only have 10 episodes was not doing it any favors because I felt like there wasn’t enough time for character development, which was what made season 2 so great

Viet Dau

Jamie Lee Curtis is actually making an enemy out of me 😭😭😭

Taylor Haynes

Kenya I love you but please fix your audio. Volume level be in the pits of hell 😂

JadaTheeTyrant

Kenya is stronger than the US Marines for talking while actively spraying setting spray on her face

DariaanMichelle

I agree with you in the fact that ‘the bear’ is definitely not a comedy and they are cheating the system

M.rachelle

Imma have to respectfully disagree with album of the year and best new artist. I like Tyla but her album is just ok for me. Tyla is getting recognition so much quicker. They didn’t give Normani all the things after motivation.

M.rachelle

I agree to an extent, but I think it's the way she said it that didn't really give diva. Someone else here mentioned that her only fault was that it was awkward and not exactly comedically timed. Like if you wanna give diva, by all means! But you gotta lean iiinnn, imo.

Lilac S.

1) Tyla Album directly after Cowboy Carter must be your 2024 music hottake. Maybe I need to revisit. 2) It was just an awkward moment with odd timing and non-comedic pauses - that’s the only crime here with Tyla to me. Partially, Halle reaction was key in this too right…she is considered the IT girl right now (despite the baby situation, she is still on the good side of the culture and very media trained) and I think how suspiciously protective black Americans are of her fueled this narrative. Like “how dare you think our black mermaid, should hold something for you? she’s isn’t the help.” The tendency to pit woman against one another seems to be the core of this silly drama.

Eboni Haynes

Can you please Chloe new album a chance it’s good I promise

Keith Primas

damn, i really cant hear this video

Rutchama P

is anyone’s volume rlly low on this?

aaliyah

I'm rlly wondering why TV has been feeling SOOO stagnant for me lately (mainly this year, but also last year, as it relates to the Emmys)... how bad is the TV industry that we keep getting the same few shows absolutely sweeping award shows like this while dozens of shows that could've blossomed get cancelled after szn 2??? could it be the strikes last year didn't address all the problems in TV, like short seasons w/ lengthy hiatuses b/w each one??? idk, but I'm somehow unmotivated to even watch some damn TV, which just feels sad 😭

rudi!!!

re: tyla - I think ppl were just jumping at a chance to hate on her bc so far, she's held a v family-friendly, wholesome image, but the VMAs moment was the first time in front of an audience that she wasn't 100% "respectable" in their eyes. the fact that there was legit DISCOURSE around someone not wanting to hold her heavy-ass award (or she just didn't put it on the floor, word to latto) makes me think y'all are just BORED!!! I can get down w/ silly conversations and topics online, but this was ridiculous

rudi!!!

“Everybody fightin over 20k copies sold” Kenya omgsgghhhi

Tev

Omg yessss!!!! The Bear is 100% not a comedy!!!!! I watched the full first season and laughed like twice? It is a drama, and it isn’t even a particularly comedic drama.

Adrienne C

It’s been like that the past few vids most def lmaoo

Mariah L.

It’s kinda ironic cause as somebody who calls out colorism more than the avg black person I don’t see any need to apply any colorist discourse to Tyla like I’ve been seeing people try to do? Like idk what it is - yes it plays a part in her success but I agree she is not as successful as people make her out to be? Like she’s making incredible strides as a SA artist but she’s not dominating the industry like it may seem. Honestly I think a lot of people are trying to wrap their heads around the discussion of her race and ethnicity and that’s where these failed discourse attempts are coming from

Mariah L.

I enjoy the bear but it’s like not even funny to me, people keep saying it’s hilarious but like idk it’s just really serious and the jokes are just fine

Turdferg24

i loveee tyla but i actually think Tems’ album was better than Tyla’s

emiliaem

"we can keep this in Africa" lmaoo I'd agree Tems is bigger than Tyla. But yes this Tyla and similarly Chappell discourse is all out of boredom. It's just all ridiculous. We going back and forth about who holding awards and a woman who wants crazed fans to be normal...? Everyone is bored!

Diana

The whole she wants a Nicki feature so she froze up when the camera turned to her was insaneeeee LMAO

Danielle A

I thought that by put together thing it’s like with Beyoncé where they wanna see her struggling and bring her down a peg since she’s too in control of her image

Danielle A

ever since she’s made those comments about her race ppl been on tyla NECK, not to say she wasn’t allowed to be criticized for that but atp it’s giving forced, I was listening to another podcast talk about the vmas situation and how it solidified why they don’t like tyla, whole thing was based in xenophobia, and honestly I think most discourse surrounding tyla in general is just xenophobia, just say you don’t like the girl and move omg 😭

ceeitrus

Omg wait did you put on concealer twice or was that colour corrector at first

Danielle A

You gotta fix the volume kenya!!

Daja Vu

"Everybody fighting for 20k sold first week," is a BAR. But on the subject, I'm still on the soap box that the Tyla and Rihanna comparisons make. no. sense. I don't hate Tyla, but the fans saying that make me roll my eyes cause it's so try hard to me. Rihanna literally snatched her VMA from Kevin Hart (which was genuinely funny). I just don't see Tyla doing something like that...especially if she saying the award is heavy. Like...be so for real. Then again, I'm tired of the new girls being heavily compared to established artists anyway. It never seems to come from good faith (to me).

Lilac S.

I don’t care for Tyla either way but it’s so funny that everyone’s like we need to bring back divas and they lose their minds over tyla asking someone to hold her award yep !

Danielle A

I just started the vid and I HAVE to pause bc Kenya the fro is FROOOOOOOOOing 🤩, the curls, the definition, the VOLUME >>>>> Also if you could turn the volume on your mic up, we’d appreciate it ma’am, pls and thx 🫶🏾

JT

I thought it was just me lol

Lavender1495

When I was still using the bird app, it was rough on the African side. The xenophobic things they would say about other Africans would make MAGA blush

Natalie Stravens

😂😂😂 a big South African hater is killing me 😭

Treena Mathieu

Kenya, you gotta watch Interview with the vampire. It wasn’t in the Emmy’s this year but it SHOULD HAVE. It’s on AMC+ and Netflix has season 1

Kris

Side note: what’s the setting spray that you used in the gold bottle?

C

Me and my husband were talking about this too. Tv is not what it used to be. We used to have so many shows. That’s how we bonded in the beginning of our relationship. Now he mostly plays the game while I read. 🤷🏽‍♀️ it’s fine but I miss the old days.

Michelle

I’m not bothered by any pushback Tyla gets. Coloured or black, her and her team are colorists. Especially after that photoshoot. If you try to say that it’s paying homage to Rihanna, then you’ve proven my point. That Rihanna photoshoot was also colorist, which isn’t surprising given the men she dates and now have multiple children with. All while trying to have an “inclusive” beauty brand.

TheMisFitP

The irony of the Tyla discourse is many South African fans talking about how much they don’t need US fans, but also getting mad that the US doesn’t give her the flowers she deserves. Like it can’t be both ways. But I’m a big South African hater because how they treat the rest of us Africans so I’m biased. All of this smoke is about her fans though. Tyla is fine.

Natalie Stravens

I’m having the same issue

Neria Neria

Babeyyy I had to turn my volume all the way up! Was it just me?

Gabriel Benton

Like the Tyla discourse is so FORCED. Like it does look like she’s kinda of a diva but WHO CARES
