It was my understanding the first time I watch this movie that Death intervenes in the beginning of the movie to take the young man’s life. The reason for this was because death was intrigued with Bill Parish and what he says to his daughter about love. Susan was smitten with the young man in the cafe, making him the perfect body to take. If the young man had never talked to Susan in the cafe, then he probably wouldn’t die. What lesson did we learn from this? Don’t talk to girls in cafes.

[Obligatory:] I feel cheated. I watched the whole movie twice, and did not see any gorilla! :-) Call me a bad person, but I can't help but burst out laughing every time I see the double hit.

Roger Ebert used to have this theory called “The Kevin Kline Mustache Principle”. If Kline wore a mustache, it was a comedy. If he was clean-shaven, it was a drama. I have one called “The Brad Pitt Facial Hair and Long Hair Principle”. If Pitt has facial hair or long hair or both, chances are it’s a very good movie. If he’s clean-shaven and has short hair, it’s almost always a dud. Granted, there are a few exceptions, but I think this is true. “Seven”? Phenomenal movie. “Seven Years In Tibet”? Meh.
