I'd argue for Robin Hood: Men in Tights. It's my favourite movie :D

2024-12-10 01:23:48 +0000 UTCGreat movie and a fun watch with Mary. Knowing who Richard Pryor was and that he was a co-writer and originally meant to be the Sheriff is a big part of understanding the racial stuff. (not to mention it being the 70s and hearing the n-word and the 'other' f-word was fairly common) Thanks for a fun watch Mary, cheers. BTW, Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor actually did make a couple films together and they might be a fun watch. My vote would be for Silver Streak.

2024-12-09 07:41:35 +0000 UTCPeople getting Hedley's name wrong is a gag involving Hedy Lamarr, a leading lady from the 1930s and '40s, and Randolph Scott was a leading man from the '30s to the '60s. If you like Gene and Mel together, I think "The Producers" is a must; it was Brooks' first film, and kind of set the tone for his sense of humor. And for more of just Gene, a great comedy is "Start the Revolution Without Me" with Donald Sutherland.

2024-12-09 06:41:39 +0000 UTCThe Civil War ended in 1865 not 1965. And Mel Brooks wrote the movie to show how wrong Racisim was at. the time and as an ani Racisim movie.

2024-12-09 05:53:25 +0000 UTCI consider Blazing Saddles the second best Mel Brookes comedy. Young Frankenstein is no. 1 to me because I like the old monster movies of 50s Hollywood.

2024-12-09 04:19:36 +0000 UTCAnd let's not forget that Richard Pryor who LOVED doing race based humor (and was also who the role of Sheriff Bart Was written for) was in the writing team as well

2024-12-09 03:43:50 +0000 UTCIm glad you enjoyed this movie overall however, Mel brooks wasnt trying to get you to hate anybody. Much like Spaceballs, this entire movie is satire even with the "racism" and its sad that you dont understand that aspect about his movies. Must be a Gen Z issue lol.
