Fun fact: this movie is a parody of an older film called “Zero Hour” (1957). Even the main character is named Ted Stryker. Plot-wise, it is nearly identical except one is a drama and the other is a comedy. Even many of the actors and actresses in “Airplane!” were mostly known for dramatic roles including Leslie Nielsen. Also, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar reportedly was not a nice person and the child actor who plays Joey asked him for an autograph and Kareem reportedly said, “F off, kid.”

2024-09-07 10:53:43 +0000 UTCIf it's at all possible after watching this, you should do a reaction to Airport (1970). This is a spoof to all those disaster movies. Airport stars Burt Lancaster & Dean Martin. It's on the exact opposite end of the emotional perspective.

I think a lot of the jokes in Airplane are outdated though and it can definitely be a hit or miss with the younger generations. I'm a millennial and a lot of the jokes in this movie just don't hit. I think it's one of those movies you had to grow up with to truly appreciate.
