So I promise I’m not ancient(41), but I have indeed had my mouth washed out with soap. My parents grew up in the 50s, and I guess it was a thing lol. I had dropped the f bomb. Then the soap came. Then I threw up directly onto my mom’s shoes. First and last time I got a bar of soap in my mouth. And yes, I still have my vision. Great reaction. Merry Christmas all!

Mary, I enjoyed this reaction/viewing so much. This movie has become an unlikely classic. It did not do great at the box-office and really became popular on cable and video. It wasn’t until the 1990s when TNT a d later TBS aired it every Christmas when it became a classic holiday movie.
Fun fact: the narrator of the movie. Jean Shepherd, plays the man in line who tells Ralphie, “The line starts here!”
I also had a moment like Ralphie’s years ago when my parents told me they noticed an unopened gift which turned out to be a TV/DVD combo. It wasn’t huge, but I was so touched that I become choked up and hugged them both.
I love that you love this movie. Merry Mary 🎄
