2024-02-13 16:28:26 +0000 UTCThe guy eating the carrot in Bree is actually a cameo by the Director, Peter Jackson. He does an almost identical cameo in The Fellowship of the Ring, when the Hobbits arrive in Bree, and he's also eating a carrot.

Though in Tolkien's world, dragons are meant to be very persuasive and charming, so maybe that's it? :D Maybe you know by now, but Smaug was voiced (and mocapped) by Benedict Cumberbatch, Dr Strange himself. Both Benedict and Martin Freeman (who played Bilbo) worked together as Sherlock and Watson in the BBC series Sherlock, which is worth a watch. I don't think you missed anything - it'd be hard for the rabid fans to come for you anyway because a lot of these movies are original content. The book doesn't have anywhere near the same action, romance or drama as the movies.
