As a former history major who also minored in Greek and Roman studies, I could point out the historical inaccuracies in Gladiator all day long. But it's such an epic, badass movie that does such an amazing job of drawing you into the story and getting you to really care about what happens, that I just can't bring myself to care about all of the things that it gets wrong. And when you get down to it, they got most of those things wrong on purpose to make it a better, more compelling movie. And those performances by Russel Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix! Definitely the best of Russel Crowe's career IMO, and one of the best for Joaquin Phoenix. This movie deserved all the awards it got, and deserved some that it didn't win.

2021-07-01 09:00:27 +0000 UTCLove this movie, I can watch it over and over - another awesome reaction :) I recommend you check out the series "Spartacus", also about the gladiators, and a man who just wants to be free. The first episode isn't great, but it becomes a truly incredible show.

2021-06-28 21:06:54 +0000 UTCYes, this is a wonderful movie. I saw it in the theatres when it was released. Then, when I was surprised with a Sony DVD player back in the early 2000's, I immediately ran out and bought Gladiator as my first DVD. Ran it in a loop all night.
