There was over a year in between Shiloh and the start of the siege. Grant tried all kinds of shit before deciding to cross the river. I’m not impressed with a river crossing at Port Gibson when his navy owned the river. Champion’s Hill is well north of his landing. I’ll give him that victory. I’ve been to Vicksburg. He didn’t take the bluffs directly he took them from behind, which was like his 3rd or 4th idea to take Vicksburg. One of his great ideas was to dig a canal to bypass Vicksburg. The Union’s material and numerical advantage was easy mode.

If we're talking about Champion's hill, we're talking about pulling off the largest water borne landing of recent military history and attacking Montgomery, forcing Pemberton to attack, we agree. If you're talking about Vicksburg being on easy mode....I'm not sure you've seen those bluffs.
