2021-09-04 19:44:06 +0000 UTCRegarding the Quebec independence, to appease them back in the 90s they passed the Clarity Act which gives the legal framework for how any province could leave Canada if a mere referendum to be independent were to pass in any province. But this kind of backfired because the strongest separatist movement now in Canada isn’t Quebec, it’s Alberta. At times, popularity of Wexit (Western Exit) has reached 40% in Alberta, and if they did leave Canada, it would be because of the restrictions the national govt puts on oil extraction in the tar sands. They’d be an obviously appealing addition to America as a 51st state given the resources, we’d be handed Texas North on a silver platter.
