Oh no no no…They wanted this power so much they chose to steal it, they own every bit of this. We often say we should emulate the dems on how to wield power when we have it. That holds true for the inverse. If that means,“This would never happen under Trump!” True or not…does not matter, beat them over the head with it I say.

Tanner Greer did a very nice couple of essays about the state of the Taiwanese military and it's capability to defend itself from invasion.
In short, ground forces are extremely under-trained. Conscripts only expect to practice shooting 4-6 times during the entirety of their service, they aren't trained in performing a fighting withdrawal or guerilla operation. The Taiwanese Navy and Airforce are well-funded, but ground forces are laughably under-prepared for conflict. If the PLA can secure a beachhead, they would very quickly be able to sufficiently control the island before the US would have time to send a response force.
Greer theorizes that a military defense of Taiwan is indeed possible, but the government would need to reform itself into being a garrison-state similar to Israel. But there is very little will amongst the Taiwanese to increase funding or punch-up the draft laws.
