November 2024 AUDIO Oddcast

An unflashy (as well as wheezy) Patreon update this time, looking back at the last few videos and assorted irrelevance.

Thank you for your reply. I am touched. I think one has to be frank about death. My dear Ollie always was, so we made all proper plans (but never expected things to end this soon). I think it’s a healthy attitude, to be aware of one’s mortality and have the satisfaction that you’ve made the best of your life. That’s all anyone can ask.

I’m so sorry to hear about this and I’ll offer you my condolences. My family have always been very matter of fact about life and death, particularly my mum, she was very grounded in reality. It might have come from losing both her parents as a teenager. I think it sometimes can jar with others when I talk about death how I would have with my late mother. But yes I do feel like I’ve got no unfulfilled destiny, no places left that I have a massive desire to see, no bucket list. I’ve done all I needed to do and while I’ll continue to shuffle about for as long as I get, when I do go, I won’t be doing so with a load of regrets and frustrations. I don’t feel a need to go into space or to visit the wreck of the Titanic to feel content. I do wish you all the best, take care of yourself.

Hearing you describe your health problems and that mid-50s was ‘ok’ for you really resonated with me. My emotions are raw at the moment. My husband died last month aged 52 after a short battle with cancer but he had suffered with numerous health problems for years before, having left work with ill health in 2011. It just made me feel a bit better about things, so thank you for sharing. He and I were (and I remain) long term viewers of your channel and it’s a pleasure to finally support you via Patreon.

i'm totally going to start calling it sticky tape now tho

Mat, don't worry about the 0.001% who complain about everything and have zero sense of humour, make the videos how YOU want to make them - I like seeing you chat in the car, I like the puppets. Make the videos for the other 99.99% who want that kind of stuff and get the humour. Kev.

RobotOnline

Yes I got it 100% wrong.

Techmoan

Not to continue pointless debate, but I've never heard another American refer to it as sticky tape. We just call it tape or Scotch tape (the brand). Declaring a tape "sticky" is like calling a water wet.

Timothy Roller

It just feels like there’s not enough meat on the bones.

Whats so disappointing about the Kanto Syd video?

When it comes to AI and ChatGPT, one use case I am finding quite valuable is when you need to buy a specific item but don’t know what it is called. I needed to replace the bit of wood under the kitchen cabinets to fit a new dishwasher. There was a plasticky bit on the bottom of the old wood, that kind of helped to jam the wood against the floor. Spent ages looking for it on amazon and B&Q to no avail, so I asked Chat GPT what it is called, it called it a plinth strip so I searched for that on the B&Q website and bang found it straight away. I could just have gone to B&Q and asked them but who has the time for that.
