Holiday Patreon Q&A! Answers!

Time to answer yesterday's questions! Here we go!

--

SANIK KID: Who will you main in Smash Ultimate?

A: Honestly, no idea. I'd love to try out one of the new characters though.

--

Clare Sellitti: You probably get this a lot still! But, with your first con (Retropalooza) now under your belt, do you plan on expanding to other cons in the coming year(s)?

A: I had a blast at Retropalooza, I for sure will try to be at it again next year. As far as other cons go, maybe one Normal Boots/Hidden Block are attending? We share a lot of fans so I think that would make a lot of sense.

EmmiJade: Would you ever consider talking about your lighting setup? I've been fascinated by how beautiful the lighting is in your videos, and was wondering if you had any lighting tips or tricks.

A: Thanks! I really love playing around with lighting, it's one of the few things that can make a video look poorly made or extremely professional so I've always cared a lot of about it. If you want somewhere to start I'd suggest watching "3 point lighting" videos on youtube. That's where I started and learned the basics. You'd be surprised how much better your lighting will look by just considering things like having a light to illuminate your hair. etc. Also, I love colored lights for some of the dramatic stuff I do, you have more creative liberties with that kind of stuff.

MikeJEHMSZ: What's the production process like for a typical Chadtronic video?

A: It's pretty simple actually. For a reaction video, I often look at the subreddit for suggestions, I also have a lot of material bookmarked on my computer that I found myself. Most videos I've only watched the first 30 seconds or so, so most reactions are genuine in my videos. I have scripted a couple, but only a very select few, mostly because of technical recording issues that corrupted the footage for the initial recording, something like that. Then it goes into editing and uploading from there. Most videos have to be older and obscure, newer stuff always tends to get caught in content ID. Which is why my channel features a lot of vintage stuff.

Lane: Since Nintendo is stopping their creators program and making things easier for YouTubers to monetize Nintendo related videos, do you see yourself doing more Nintendo videos again?

A: Actually, yeah. I'll probably still wait a bit just because I'm not sure if I totally trust them 100% yet. We'll see what I can find for more Nintendo material. I've already reacted to most of their older tapes and promo videos. We'll see.

Sarah-Beth Jones: Every time I see one of your Cheftronic videos I’m utterly fascinated by how clean and clutter-free your kitchen is. Do you clear it out for the video or is it just Like That?

A: Haha, we actually clear it out before every video. There isn't much to move though, mostly just a coffee machine and sometimes our rice cooker, that's about it really.

Frank: What does your day-to-day life look like? Do you spend all your time between videos on Jojoyco and "research" for new videos or do you also have a side job or something similar?

A: Right now I haven't been working at the yojoyco office very much, this month I've specifically been mostly focused on making videos. In January I'll probably spend more time out there again once the holidays are over. We're making good progress on the 2nd comic book however things have kind of halted for the video game. That project may become cancelled. My primary game dev had to move for another job opportunity, since then I haven't focused much on continuing the game. I am considering doing other new projects with yojoyco though.

Clare Sellitti: Just got back from work and thought of another question haha. So for us later pledged patrons will you ever make another first class fricks shirt? I pledged right after they were released and sold and I have wanted one forever now lol

A: I've considered doing a new shirt yeah, if that's what you mean. However, I'll have to figure out a way so only patrons can buy it. Before the first shirt was offered here before my new merch shop opened, so at the time it conveniently worked out. Now I'd have to setup something different because my merch shop is already public.

That's all the questions! Feel free to ask some last minute ones in the comments and I'll try to answer them. Thanks again for all your support. I plan on posting some more stuff here soon!

Warm fricks,

- Chad
