Jason's GM notes (update)

Hello! Just a reminder that one of the small perks you enjoy as a Patron of the Gauntlet is you get access to all my GM notes for 2018. The folder is linked above. Here is what is currently in the folder:

Crossroads Carnival (from a playtest I ran in January)

Cthulhu Dark: Hotel Miramar (from my Cthulhu Dark: Confidential series)

Cthulhu Dark: Gardenia House (from my Cthulhu Dark: Confidential series)

Dungeon World: The Golden Barge (from Slumbering Ursine Dunes; adapted to support Fear of a Black Dragon)

Dungeon World: Vaults of Shadow (the first adventure in the new Songs of the Shadow Court campaign)

World of Dungeons: Ravenloft (adapted from module I6)

World of Dungeons: Seclusium

I hope you find these helpful and inspiring. You are free to use anything from these notes in your own games. The Cthulhu Dark mysteries, for example, can be used immediately without any adjustments.

Thanks for the kind words, Michael. I think "Zero to Table" is a really interesting idea. Heck, that might even be a fun name for a podcast or Youtube show. Let me think on it a bit. I'm happy you were able to pick up on my basic GMing style, which is to say I go into the first session with a pretty fleshed-out core idea for the adventure, but then use establishing questions for the players to help build out the world. As for your specific example, you have deduced it more or less correctly. Malgoliant was always a spider goddess (I wrote a few magic items and a compendium class inspired by her) but she wasn't always in the adventure. Originally it was just Jedrik and his putrescence filled body, but I started to adjust things after Arcon's ramblings and the corpse reaver spider details. It was very astute of you to pick up on that just from listening and looking at the notes.

Hi, Jason! To piggyback on the above question: Listening to WHTK and comparing it to both your GM notes and the show notes has been incredibly eye-opening as a struggling DW GM. The discussions about session prep on DR and the GM masterclasses have also been very helpful. That said, is there any chance you would ever do a more broad "Zero to Table" adventure creation cast or article? Your adventures' notes always indicate a more prepped narrative than a traditional 'dungeon starter' but also seem to be incredibly loose and reliant on tons of PC collaboration. It's pretty amazing. It would be wonderful to know such things as: How much of your adventures are thought out before session 1? How an adventure is pitched to potential PCs before character creation? And how player input is integrated between sessions vs. improvised at the table? (spoiler example: Was Malgoliant always a giant spider goddess in a temple full of spiders, or was that all informed by Arcon's creation of a Brown Spirit of Disobedience, and the introduction of corpse reaver spiders during Perilous Journey?)

These are last year's notes, but bear in mind they aren't organized in any particular way, nor are they written with a reader in mind. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByS4_7KbXro_MjJ4RkFaNjV1R3M

Hey Jason! I’ve been listening to We Hunt the Keepers (and enjoying it!) to try to improve my GMing. Any chance you have the notes from that campaign available?
