Yeah, it's very rough to play without awareness.
Soccer, a sport without timeouts; if shit hits the fan in a game, especially early in the first half, then it's up to all players on the field to have the intelligence to react accordingly. Especially if you plan to go pro, and you're playing away from home, then you have to deal with thousands of fans screaming and cheering around the entire stadium, making it difficult for the coach to communicate with the players on new tactics.
It's also why a lot of players fake injuries on the field - it may be frustrating for the viewer, but it slows the game down and is basically a pseudo timeout for the manager/coach to give instructions to his players on how to play the rest of the game.
