Unreleased Song #30: Nothing Like A Song

Hot off the press...

Mama is writing songs again!

McKenna just started daycare two days a week (more on that in the next voicemail). With that newfound time to myself, I plan to write!

On Tuesday, I got on a Zoom with my friend & frequent co-writer, Jeff LeBlanc. We were talking about gear... fancy amps and pedals (that we don't have)... and he sa...

Cover Song #24: Auld Lang Syne

Ok, so I didn't make it to midnight on NYE... When you're a new parent and life presents an opportunity to fall asleep earlier than expected, you take it. And by life I mean McKenna.

Only today have I started to seriously think about what I'd like to make of 2023. I'm reflecting today, and probably for most of the month to be honest.

Perhaps a little Auld Lang Syne will lead you deeper into your reflections of the year past, and help you find what you're looking for in the y...

Happy New Year, my friends!

I’m imagining you with champagne in your hands and sparkling hats on your heads. Me… I’m in cozy clothes with a babe in my arms, snuggled up in a big chair waiting for 2023. So I thought I’d ring you and leave ya a voicemail!

Here’s a glimpse of my last few days of 2022…

Little Drummer Boy!

Happy holidays, Patreon family!

I hope this finds you happy and healthy. This holiday is certainly a different one for me and my family. We are excited to spend our first Christmas morning with baby McKenna! What are your plans? Comment below! <3

This season I wanted to send you a recording I made in 2013 with producer Gus Berry. I dusted it off in hopes it gets you in the spirit...

Unreleased Song #29: Grows

You guys know how much I love to write a custom song...

Amanda and Michael have THEE most epic love story which I learned about YEARS ago. When I met them, they weren't together, but they seemed DESTINED to reunite. I'd always look forward to updates on how they were doing at shows or via email. Their story is not mine to tell, so I'll just say that now they are married and have a precious 3 month old baby boy!! Yay!!!

Unreleased Song #28: Anywhere I Wanna Go

Close your eyes and imagine you're on a road trip. This song was written for those moments... specifically written for A SUBARU COMMERCIAL!  Years ago, my manager worked for a tv/film music placement company so I got random prompts often. This one was fun to write, and Gus Berry recorded it.

The song wasn't chosen for the Subaru commercial after all (wah-wah!). THEN we almost included this one on my self titled record. But ultimately it didn't fit the vibe with the o...

Cover Song #23: I Thank You

With Thanksgiving approaching, the overwhelming gratitude I feel for this community bubbles up. I thought... is there a song that expresses GRATITUDE more than anything? This one, originally by Sam and Dave, stood out. I learned it in hopes that you would hear and feel how thankful I am for YOU. Every single one of you.

"You didn't have to love me like you did, but you did, yes you did... and I thank you!"

Cover Song #22: Back On My Feet Again

Michael Bolton is SO UNDERRATED. You can call him cheesy, but his range, his melodies, his tone... they are (in my opinion) quite epic. This song seemed fitting for this phase of my life, and I think we've all felt this way at some time or another. Sometimes we need a reminder than we will be "back on our feet again".

When I was learning this song, I couldn't help but think of Celine Dion's "cause I'm your ladyyyyyyyy, and you are my ma-aaa-a-an". The first line in the chorus melo...

Radio Recording: Jolene

It's not the "Jolene" you're thinking... but it's arguably one of the most stunning songs of all time. In this cover of Ray LaMontagne's "Jolene", I threw in a line or two of Dolly's "Jolene" just incase it is more your style. :)

This recording is from John Bommarito's radio show in 2017. I don't remember ever covering this... so I love that John was kind enough to send me these recordings to share with you. I adore this Patreon community!! Thank you so much for being here!

Unreleased Song #27: Love Me To Life

While I am in the mode of pulling out songs from my LA writing spree in 2011, here’s one from that trip that I always stuck with me! If this were recorded a little differently, I think it could have had a life in the tv/film world (like Rescue My Heart).

Nothing ever happened with it....

... That is until 2020 when my co-writer, Justin Gray, told me that a Universal Records artist wanted to record and release this song. I love a little good news. :) Unfortunately it doesn’t se...

Cover Song #21: Love Is Alive

Growing up, my mom and I wanted to be The Judds.

We sang to their record "Why Not Me" album as if we were auditioning to join their family band. Listening to their harmonies taught me how to sing in harmony with my mom.

When The Judds announced they were going on tour this fall, I grabbed tickets for me and my mom to see them at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena in October. Seemed like the perfect birthday gift for my mom! Soon after, Naomi's passing rocked everyone who lo...

Unreleased Song #26: Sunshine

This might win the award for the OLDEST “Unreleased Song” that I’ve shared here on Patreon. I recently came across it and had to share…

Back in 2011, I was fresh out of college and on my first writing trip in LA. Thanks to some dumb luck, I had the pleasure of writing with the great Maia Sharp. If you don’t know Maia, check her out! Not only does she have several super 2022-09-12 20:34:00 +0000 UTC View Post

Radio Recording: What's The Matter

Besides visiting the famous Zingerman's Deli, one of my favorite stops in Ann Arbor is seeing Michigan's beloved radio host, John Bommarito.

John has been generous enough to invite me onto his radio show several times over the past decade. As a Patreon Lizard himself, he kindly shared a few recordings from my sessions and encouraged me to share them with you here! Thank you, John!

I thought I'd share "What's The Matter" first since I rarely play it these days. You've likely ...

She’s here!!

After MUCH anticipation, our sweet daughter, McKenna May Larney is here!!!

8.29.22. 6:52pm. 8 lbs, 8 oz. 18 inches!

She is healthy, happy, and proving to us that love has no limits!

Thanks to modern medicine, I was induced on Sunday night (10 days overdue!) and I enjoyed every second of labor (once the epidural was in)! While we waited, we watched our current favorite show, “The Last Man on Earth”. We were giggling nonstop which may be why I progressed quick...

Cover Song #20: LA Song

This song has been requested several times here on Patreon and I finally learned it!

Patryk is a huge Beth Hart fan and turned me onto her music a few years ago. Her talent is that of a LEGEND. She is far too unknown here in the states. Luckily, she's had seemingly huge success overseas. This is one of her more popular songs. It's brilliantly written, in my opinion. I enjoyed translating this song to electric guitar, but I'm really hoping this cover just opens your eyes t...

Part 2: The Evolution of 'Never Really Mine'

Now that you've heard the starting point of this song (shared July 28), today I'm sharing the second draft!

You'll notice the tempo is still chugging along, and the verse lyrics are first draft... but by this point, Ian and I had landed the chorus and the bridge! YAY!

So how did THIS turn into current day 'Never Really Mine'?

I sent this demo to my parents before I began recording the Weightless album. They kept encouraging me...

Unreleased Song #25: First Day

By now, you can probably tell that I really enjoy writing custom songs.

From a Christmas song, to a surprise first dance wedding song and a few anniversary love songs… I’ve loved the custom projects over the years. This month's Patreon unreleased song is a custom song originally written as surprise anniversary gift from a woman to her husband in 2013. They fell in love when they were young, had two babies and one on the way. She wanted to surprise him with a personal piece of music....

Part 1: The Evolution of 'Never Really Mine'

During this month's online concert, we got to talking about the evolution of my song 'Never Really Mine'.

After the show, I reached out to my co-writer, Ian Keaggy, and asked if he'd be comfortable with me sharing our original demo. Ian gave his blessing (pretty please keep this demo between us), and as we talked, we realized there are actually TWO demos.

Today I'm ...

Cover Song #19: Summertime

Patryk and I filmed this cover song last year and for whatever reason I never shared it with you!  Now that we're in the thick of summer, I thought it was perfecting timing to post it.

I've always loved this jazz standard... I grew up singing this song with my dad and his jazz band. You've probably heard me weave it into my cover of Moondance.  Here it is on it's own. I hope you enjoy.

Unreleased Song #24: Rainy Independence Day Tonight

Remember MySpace? Gosh, I loved finding new music on MySpace back in the day. As a budding musician, it was where I spent a lot of my time connecting with fellow artists and reorganizing my top 8 friends. LOL. If ya know, ya know.

The best thing that ever came from MySpace for me is my friendship with singer/songwriter Robby Hecht.

Shortly after I fangirled over his music on MySpace, we decided to play a show together in Portland, ME when I was on a college break. From then on, he...
