My take on Ryo's words were: I wanna play and I think I'm able to perform as I usually do, so I'm only hurting myself with it, not the team. If my partner, however, who knows me best out of everyone deems myself unable to perform as I usually do, you can tell the coach. If it's coming from my other half, I can't disagree and won't be mad. So, sure Ryo has selfish (and for me, very understandable) reasons for wanting to play no matter what, BUT he does perform in training. Mochi watched him extra carefully and he didn't catch him slacking or anything. So, I think it makes sense for Mochi to not tell the coach since Mochi doesn't think that it's all that bad if he can play as good as he always does. Also what he didn't say: If he says he can't play team morale is gonna be in the dumps, especially Haruicci who'd have to replace him would probably be in his head a lot if he had to go in instead of his big bro. Then, the teamwork of Mochi and Haruicchi isn't nearly as good as it is between Ryo and Kuramochi. Plus, Ryo is a very valuable better they can't afford to lose (not saying Haruichi lacks batting skills but experience in a game like this one when you are playing someone like Inashiro, experience makes all the difference). This boy probably thought a lot about his decision not to say anything. He got my respect at least.

To me that's not how it is. You're welcome to that opinion though I'm not telling you you're wrong. To me him telling Mochi what he did shifted the entire responsibility. He wants to play yes and he's the best for that position but now your teammate is spending the game and the practices worried about you and concentrated on if you're okay and if you should be playing or not. Don't put that on your teammate. Tell the coach you're injured and let him decide if you should be in or not. If you tell the coach he can make preparations for incase something goes wrong. If you don't tell him and something happens then no one is ready. He's the older of the 2, he should do it himself.

Kelsey

Hes not really putting it on him. Ryosuke decided not to leave the field. He was simply saying "if you want me off the field tell me" its not as if he didnt make a decision. He did and it was to keep playing. He doesnt care about his injury or making it worse. He cares about winning the game so he's okay with leaving the field if one of his teammates feel like he's playing horribly.

I wouldn't say it's the wrong outlook, just a different one. I agree that Ryousuke is the best for that position but I don't agree in leaving it up to your teammate to decide if you should be playing or not. Ryousuke is the older of the 2. Take responsibility for your own injury. Don't put it on your underclassmens shoulders to tell the coach or not. Mochi also knows how vital he is to the team and now it's on him to either tell the coach and probably get him benched, or let it go and watch his injury possibly get worse and cause problems. If he wanted to hide it that's on him but as soon as Mochi asked he shouldn't have put it on him to decide.

Kelsey

What's interesting is I never saw his conversation with Mochi as him putting the pressure on him. Not disagreeing but that just never occurred to me. It was frustrating that he hid his injury as it always is, but even if they know what happened with Chris its a lot harder to pull the plug on yourself when the team is at stake. Ryosuke was just so vital to the team and felt like he couldnt leave such an important game. Which in my mind is why he told Kuramochi what he did. He cant pull himself off the field knowing whats at stake but he wont argue if a teammate tells him he's only being a burden.

Sleepyheartss

Thats the wrong outlook. Ryosuke NOT being on the field is a detriment to the team. Without him second base, arguably the most important, will be a weakness. He wasnt doing it for himself but for the team. Hiding injuries is something that normally happens in sports. So he wasnt "gambling the team" as you put it. He was more so gambling his own safety which is what most athletes do as often as we breathe air. I have no doubt in my mind that him NOT playing would not have been better than with him playing considering he was still performing so well while injured and no other player could fill his shoes (I am speaking from his perspective).

Sleepyheartss

This being his final game possible in high school also plays a big factor. but yeah as a teammate you sometimes gotta make tough decisions like that. It's just hard because Ryosuke is playing so well even when injured, you would only be able to tell in real game time scenarios how it will play out.

Honto

The Ryosuke situation is so controversial in this fandom lol but I agree with you. I think it was fucked up to put all that pressure on Kuramochi to decide if the coach knows or not. Especially given the fact that Chris, in Ryousukes same year, hurt himself and also hid it until it was too late and too bad to properly fix in a decent amount of time, you'd think Ryousuke would have more sense than that. The way he worded it with Kuramochi was awful. Lowkey manipulative even if his intentions were good. Ryousuke is the best player for that position but to gamble the rest of the team because you want to play and you refuse to just tell the coach is selfish. Kataoka was a player too and honestly he mightve still let him play if Ryou told him. He would've gotten it checked out and decided from there but I don't agree with putting all the pressure on Mochi.

Kelsey

the situation with ryousuke really is annoying for real, although I always thought what he said to mochi translates more into "if you think I can't do it then make the call, if it comes from you then I trust your judgment." i think ryousuke really believes it's nothing serious (or more like he wants to believe that that's the case). Either way, it does put mochi in this shitty situation of possibly having to pull ryousuke out of the game

Roman

You are partially right that Ryosuke is saying that in order for Mochi to let him play but there is also truth to it because he knows Mochis decision whether he tells the coach or not will be the right one

Deano
