i am so late but for those who might watch the reaction after me, the handlers did not retire or commit suicide because of the potential attachment they had (as laxzone suggests) but because of the voices they hear when the 86 run into black sheeps (its been explained before)

The scar on her back is saying "Whoxx's Daughter" left by some abusers. Shin's parents came from noble families of Giadian Empire (the country developed Legion) so the other 86 might hate him. San Magnolia was once an empire, Milizé family was one of the noble family, even now the country becomes Republic, the nobilities still keep the wealth and traditions. Lena's mother always wants Lena to quit the handler job and get married. And that's also why the uncle said it is Lena's job as Milizé's daughter to dress up and attend the party
