Eirathil’s winter was unrelenting this year—blistering winds, endless snow, and a chill so deep even the sun’s light faltered against it. Yet somehow, you found yourself traveling through these forbidding lands. The “roads” were barely more than suggestions, buried beneath drifts of white, and yet they guided you to the outskirts of the kingdom’s capital, Frostfjell.
Despite the dire rumors about Eirathil—whispers of heretics and half-starved people—what greeted you were warm smiles and sturdy souls weathering the cold as if it lived in their veins. The bustling city streets hummed with trade. Children swaddled in furs darted between the crowds, chasing a ball over icy cobblestones, and the shops lining every avenue beckoned with the promise of comfort and warmth.
You decided to remain, at least until the latest flurry of storms blew past, finding your accommodations at a local tavern more than suitable. To pass the time, you wandered through Eirathil’s capital and discovered a generosity you never expected. A kind-faced woman offered you a free bowl of Glacierroot Stew, its steam chasing the chill from your bones. A cloaked merchant gave you a generous discount on winter gear, ensuring you could face the elements without fear. Perhaps, in time, you’d learn why Eirathil was rumored to be home to heretics. Today, however, was not that day.
A soft, tinkling bell chimed as you stepped into the bakery you’d seen brimming with customers all week. Arriving early, you finally caught it at a quiet moment. From behind an arched doorway leading into a spacious preparation room, a pegasus pony trotted forth. Her smile was as warm and inviting as the frosting smudged on her cheek. Your gaze drifted downward from her icing-colored horn to the berry-red eyes that sparkled with gentle delight.
“You must be new here! I know every face in Frostfjell ,” she said, folding her wings neatly to her sides. With a graceful turn, she led you past counters laden with pastries, her gaze holding yours with a sweet, confident charm. “So,” she asked with a lighthearted giggle, “what sort of treat can I tempt you with?”
Days turned into weeks, and still you lingered in Frostfjell . Perhaps it was the people, their kindness like a balm against the cold. Perhaps it was the way the local dishes could thaw the chill right out of you. Or maybe it was Ginger—the little pegasus pony who seemed to brighten every corner she touched, every silence with her laughter, every moment with her smile. It took courage, unfamiliar as you were with these lands and their ways, but you asked her out. Your first date became a cherished memory, one in which you learned so much more about Ginger.
She told you of her love for Frostfjell , of how she’d been an orphan raised collectively by the kind souls of this town. She spoke of the long hours she’d worked to own her bakery, of the secret cookie recipe the late town elder had entrusted only to her. Not once did silence feel awkward. She asked about you, about things no one had ever cared to know, her curiosity and sincerity sweeter than any candy.
Now, tonight, Ginger has invited you back to her bakery. She hasn’t said why, exactly, but you already know it will be memorable…

This YCH takes place in Eirathil, a cold, miserable land deep in the north of Luminaris, with my lovely mare being Ginger.
