Anytime I see Batista's entrance now, all I can think about is that video of Woods singing along to it and going crazy backstage at Wrestemania

All chokes used to be illegal, but I would say probably about 10 years ago they quit enforcing that rule with the exception of like literally putting your hands around someone’s neck. The WWE and all of wrestling Shared this rule however, so it wasn’t a WWE PG thing. To my knowledge, the only moves that got nixed because of the PG era were the punt for a while, even though it was around for a little bit into the PG era, and the stomp from Seth, once again, even though he did it for a couple of years, then was forced to stop it, then was allowed to bring it back, all of which took place after the company went PG. Chokes were not a casualty of i the PG era though, neither were pile drivers, Vince just thought that pile drivers in general were too risky so he didn’t allow people to use them. Just as a couple of fun facts, believe it or not, intentionally throwing a wrestler over the top rope was illegal well into the 80s in every company with the exception of the WWE. Punching was illegal way way way back in the day, and even into the 80s and early 90s, sometimes referees would make a show of admonishing a wrestler for throwing a punch. I just thought y’all would enjoy some of those factoids. As a kid, this match felt like such a big deal, they really built it up well on television and made you feel like the two biggest stars of this generation were going head to head, and I guess they were, and as a kid who liked John Cena more, I was sad that he lost, but it did solidify to me for a while that Bautista was tougher.
