Jeff Jarrett vs Chyna - WWF No Mercy 1999

I agree. It's always good to see the misogynist get his comeuppance, but it's never good to go for cheap heat especially in today's age when this type of cheap heat might actually negatively affect the type of business you're doing. As someone who grew up during the ruthless aggression era, I remember this stuff happening all the time in the 2000s, but I do believe that wrestling usually evolves with times from the cartoonish 80s to the rebel 90s and the realist 00s, wrestling has always evolved.

Flynn Vicci

True, but the woman got to beat the man’s ass at the end of the day.

Big Ell

the was JJ last WWE appearance until almost 20 YEARS when he was inducted into the 2019 HOF.

yoyo

It was also a 1999 WWF crowd who cheered when women got undressed so expecting them to support a woman against a misogynist is a bit of a stretch lol

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

The only think I will say about this absurdity is that I didn't know that Teddy Long (the referee, who was SmackDown GM 10 years later) worked for WWE that far back

reyderey

I know I’m probably gonna literally be the only one, but it would’ve been really funny if Jeff won here. also I should say, not that I think this makes the comments any better, but King and Kitty were married at this point.

Ian Hernandez

I do believe that villains need to be allowed to be villainous and cause discomfort. Otherwise, the conflict feels low-stakes and lacks tension. The final twist wouldn’t have worked nearly as well if Jarrett didn’t have heat. However, the fact that much of the crowd was cheering for Jeff suggests the angle wasn’t landing as intended. 🫣

.

One of the funniest things about these matches is how JR always takes them super seriously as though it was a sporting contest. Never makes a joke, never laughs at anything. When he sees the fish, he merely pontificates what species it could be. 😭

.

Yeah, King had a reputation for liking them young. To the point of legal issues at one point.

Adam Nelson

a few. they're all recorded and going up this week. tally tier post goes up friday

Dport

Yo how many left on the last tally submissions?

Diruroru

He wanted to get paid for previous shows he’d done because his contract had expired the day before and he would have simply not done the match if he didn’t get what he thought he was owed.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

Yep and then in 01 after he left the company when they fired her, she changed the locks on their house on him.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

I’ve never actually watched this match so I’m excited to give it a watch.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

Thanks for this match. I enjoyed it because of the wacky stuff like pies to the face mid match.

Flynn Vicci

Really? Isn't he like 25 years old than her? Like old enough to be her father? That's gross.

Flynn Vicci

Damn man. I still can't believe this type of stuff actually happened back in the day, but I suppose it was a different time when misogyny was more tolerable than today. This type of storyline would probably end up losing wwe sponsors if they ran it today.

Flynn Vicci

I did submit this match because I enjoyed it, shitty Jerry Lawler commentary aside. You guys had mentioned a while back you’d like to see some Chyna. This was her first big singles feud, her first title win, and the first time ever a woman won a WWE title in a men’s division. It’s not a banger, but it’s a nice little piece of history. And I always enjoy seeing the bad guy get a well-deserved ass-kicking.

Wade Kruse

To make it worse, Miss Kitty and the king were actually married.

Karen

This would be Jeff's last match before going to wcw. I think the story is he wanted a pay raise for this match and if he didn't get it, he would just not drop the belt
