CM Punk vs John Cena - Raw June 7th 2010

They said he felt remorse but in reality Bryan was fired because this was around the time wwe signed their deal with mattel. Mattel had an issue with Bryan strangling Justin Roberts with his tie(something that was cut from the version on the network you just watched). They did tell him just to wait until the heat dies off and he’d be brought back. He returned a few months later at summerslam to face the nexus. Aside from wade, Bryan and maybe ryback the others didn’t do much in wwe. Slater did have an entertaining run and Darren young had a somewhat successful tag run with Titus O’Neil as the prime time players.

I watched NXT season 1 because there was a lot of buzz around Bryan Danielson being in WWE and I wanted to see what all the hype was about. It was cool seeing them all do this after the first season was done.

Nicholas Kramer

Black is indeed still wrestling. I think Otunga was or is a lawyer for WWE. He was also married to Jennifer Hudson.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

I appreciate that we had such similar reactions to the nexus bs on the first watch. “This is the future of the WWE!” But I don’t know any of you! Lol

Woozie

As far as I recall. Darren young with Dbz hair is in new Japan strong as fred rosser. Heath Slater is in TNA after a pretty entertaining wwe career. Ryback is ryback. Justin gabriel wrestled for ages after wwe as PJ black in Roh and lucha underground as examples. He might still be doing things. Michael tarver didn't do much . David Otunga is I think a lawyer and an actor now, he was in she hulk at least. You know wade barrett and Danielson. I think that's all of them.

After the ECW revival by WWE in 2006 after the second ECW One Night Stand PPV, WWE brought it back to be a third show for WWE (also known as WWECW). ECW was no more in early 2010, and on February 23, 2010, the first episode of NXT (Season 1) aired on TV where it was more like a challenge/wrestling/game show to see who the winner would be to have the next guy to be a star on the main roster. All the guys you see on screen that jumped everyone was apart of season 1. Wade Barrett was the winner of that season by the way.

Please no 😂😂😂😂

Phillyman!!

Somebody's gotta send in Team Cena Vs. The Nexus now. Gotta show them about Super Cena lol.

Chad

This was the episode I quit wrestling for 12 years I was tired of john cena

Darius Anderson

Fuck yes THIS match. That my friends, was the debut of The Nexus. One of the best debuts of all time. As a fourteen year old watching WWE at the time this was absolutely wild. I’d never seen what was underneath the top of the ring. Also, Daniel Bryan got fired for spitting in Cenas face and choking Justin Roberts with his tie. They surely cut that out though because I know the goofy face Roberts made in the screenshots of it are from the WWE camera feed.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

Oh yeah duh the Shield was in nxt. My bad 👍👍

Phillyman!!

I would include half of 2012 too since that's when they changed NXT.

I remember during this match I left the room for a minute to do something and when I came back, the whole ring area was trashed. I loved the Nexus. The faction and the theme. I think Rey was a heel in WCW. At this time as a 14 year old, Wade Barrett, Sheamus, and Drew McIntyre were my favorite at the time. This was my favorite version of Wade Barrett Technically, Super Cena did beat Nexus at a PPV. People were for the Nexus winning because they were still new and a win could be big for them, but Cena had a say in it and kinda killed there momentum. You did watch Ryback on Patreon. He was apart of that Survivor Series Tag Team match you watched from 2014. Team Cena vs Team Authority. Go back to 16:34 and you can see Daniel Bryan choke out Justin Roberts with the tie. This version on Peacock shows an alternative camera angle, but when it aired on TV, you saw it. You can find it on Youtube. Daniel Bryan got fired for a few months after that but came back a few months later. They referenced this that tie choking spot in AEW at some point since Bryan Danielson and The Dapper Yappper are both in AEW. They beat up Jerry Lawler, Michael Cole escaped Here's what happened to the original members of the Nexus that you see in the video (there were other members added later, but to save time, I'll just keep it to the people that you saw) Daniel Bryan: Released in 2010 and came back in the same year. Had to retire due to injuries in 2014. but started wrestling again a few years later, then left WWE in 2021 to go to AEW Wade Barrett: Left WWE in 2016, came back in August of 2020 to become and announcer on NXT. Then later moving to announce on the main roster. Speaking of saying they should attack the camera men, I heard in an interview from a while ago, that they were instructed to not attack the camera man. Someone can fact check me if that isn't true, but I believe that's the reason why. Skip Sheffield (Bald guy, AKA Ryback): Broke his ankle in August 2010, came back to TV on Smackdown in April of 2012 as Ryback. Released from WWE in 2016 Michael Tarver (The black guy with the half mask over his face): Got kicked out of the Nexus in October of 2010, and he had an injury. I think him being kicked out of the group was to cover for his groin injury. Came back to developmental in December of 2010 and had a few appearances backstage on Smackdown in 2011, but was later released the same year in 2011. Darren Young (The black guy with the blue trunks and afro): He had a decent tag run on the main roster with Titus O' Neil (another wrestler that's still with the company, but doesn't really wrestle anymore. You saw him before and was like "who the heck was that guy"). Darren Young was released in January of 2017. David Otunga: He had an ok run on the main roster, nothing special. He won the tag team titles twice. Otunga last wrestled in WWE sometime in 2015 and was off TV for a while after that. He came back to do the RAW preshows in early 2015. Stopped doing the RAW preshows in 2016 and became an announcer on Main Event. After the 20116 draft, he became an announcer on Smackdown. He was traded to the Raw brand as an announcer in 2017. He also appeared on preshows for PPVs/PLEs during this time too. Last time we really saw him on WWE TV was in 2019 doing commentary on an episode of Smackdown. I think he was released, but I don't think there was an official announcement. I never really knew what happened with Otunga in WWE at the end. He just quietly went away. He was also married to Jennifer Hudson, but they divorced. Heath Slater (Guy with the luxurious long red hair): He was released from the company in 2020 as part of some of the COVID layoffs. Went to TNA in 2020, and his contract expired with them in October of 2023. Now he wrestles on the independents. Justin Gabriel (Now known as P. J. Black and the one who did the 450 splash in the video off the top rope): He quit the company in 2015. Wrestled in TNA and the independent circuit in 2015. He wrestled in various other companies over the years since then too.

And at first I was like why tf is this video 40 minutes. I don’t remember the match going that long 😂😂😂😂😂

Phillyman!!

😂😂😂

Phillyman!!

I’m so PROUD that my first submission got you so pissed that you needed to go to the next episode of Raw. Lmaooo 💯🔥👍 And yea nxt then was so stupid. 2013-2014 nxt that we know today started. Good timing with the AEW storyline with Jon moxley and all

Phillyman!!

Forgot to mention that one thing about this angle where they destroy the place and the commentators completely dissappear was way more unique and shocking due to the time period it occured in. This was the peak of modern super kids friendly WWE where they didn't really go for "shoot" looking stuff. If this happened now, it would still be cool, but it also feels like something Triple H might do. People made comparisons to the NWO, because they also had an angle like this where they had intentional dead air to give the vibe of it not being supposed to have happened.

.

And now you know why Justin Roberts wears bow-ties instead of long ties when Bryan Danielson is on the show in AEW. Oh wait, WWE edited that out. Bryan choked Justin out with his own tie and got fired (then rehired a couple months later).

Adam Nelson

This is a storm of lore. The amount of context and information needed to explain The Nexus, its members, and the events surrounding them is staggering. Talking about it in this comment section won’t do it justice. But basically, it was a failed experiment with a bunch of failed superstars(for the most part) and they peaked on their first night. Definitely look into The Nexus if you wanna see some nonsense.

Gai Valentine

I remember thinking this moment was so cool because I was young enough that I uncritically enjoyed and was invested in the NXT game-show thing, so I was actually a fan of all the Nexus guys. 😂 Most fans probably saw them for the first time here. Even adult fans were really hyping up the Nexus faction online and thought it could be a great way to create a bunch of new stars. I won't spoil what happened, but the fact that you probably only recognize Wade and Bryan, and you know from modern commentary that Wade only won the IC title (which was pretty worthless at the time)... you can probably figure out that Vince may or may not have made some bad decisions going forward.

.

Tbf Who remembers Ryback

Paul Watson

Oh i forgot Ryback

Matthew Harvey

Uh..no lol That was 2013 which is true WWE wise This match was not that good because they didn't have the time

Paul Watson

The only other person you could say was mildly successful was Heath Slater(and maybe David Otunga) and that is even a strech

Matthew Harvey

Wrong match, you're thinking of the raw match from 2013

Matthew Harvey

This has nothing to do with NXT TakeOvers lol this was the first year of NXT Vince was Running it not Triple H NXT was totally different in its first years it was actually a development brand that was basically unwatchable. The gang you see on raw thats called The Nexus NXT didn’t get to be the true 3rd brand until like 2015. In 2010 when NXT started they just played games.

WWE Jay Gaming

To answer tally's question about serena, the straight edge society was like a cult and if you wanted to join, apart of the initiation was you had to shave your head, Gallows was already bald. Also the reason why Daniel wasn't there after the initial debut was because he got legit fired. You didn't see this part because wwe cut it out, but Daniel was choking the ring announcer by his tie and WWE felt like it was too far so they fired him. He would eventually come back by Summerslam in a Team Cena vs Team Nexus(the name of the group) match

Matthew Harvey

Alright so...some context! NXT used to a game show It was stupid Bryan was apart of this despite arguably being the best wrestler in the world at that time(fuck you Vince) And this was Nexus...a very meh group The reason you do not remember these people is because the majority of them sucked lol It was a 2 month angle that ended with Cena "burying" them at SummerSlam when truthfully they wouldn't have lasted much longer anyways The whole super Cena thing tends to be blown out of proportion because he was more than giving to wrestlers that were clearly not ready for this environment As for Bryan not being involved in that second segment Well he actually got fired for "choking" the ring announcer with his tie and Vince got petty and fired him He was very quickly back but Bryan decided to add some heat to the moment and Vince's dumbass tendencies reared their head again It was a very cool angle But with wrestlers that were never gonna make it besides two(and only one became a massive star and he was in the Nexus for one night)

Paul Watson

CM punk just named this match as one of his top 5 match in his career in a recent interview with Ice Cube' son. You guys should listen to that podcast, you can tell how CM punk really matured and think for the future of WWE.
