Dark Side of the Ring - Chris and Tammy

Comments

Tom Pritchard, Chris Candido’s tag team partner was actually an instrumental trainer back in WWE. He helped train The Rock, Kurt Angle, Mark Henry, etc. Also, Chris Candido when he got clean and was on the indie scene him and CM Punk got close and Punk actually has a tribute tattoo to Chris on his hand.

It's hard to pick a "favorite" just because some of them are actually pretty sad, but learning about Owen Hart stuck with me. Just makes me think more when they have segments like that today. Like when they had Dom in the shark tank. I instantly looked to see how well it was constructed haha

Chris's passing is so tragic. He did the hard work and cleaned up his life and then an ankle injury is what takes him out. Horrible. Tammy is one of the people I wish I could feel sorry for but just can't. She has been given every chance. At some point, there's nothing you can do for a person if they aren't willing to fix their issues. I'm glad she's behind bars where she can't hurt anyone anymore.

Will u and tally be doing a wrestledream watchalong this Saturday card looks good

Ryan Evans

Yh that decent one i think for me as I've been hard-core fan since late 99 I've heard about it alot that its got old now but for a new fan like u who didn't know about it there good documentaries but man most them depressing and sad and shows negative side about wrestling sometimes I like to hear happy stories in wrestling gets me down watching to much of it the saddest I say the benoit one and von erichs

Ryan Evans

I enjoyed learning about the screwjob

Dport

Hey josh and tally out all of the dark side of the rings u guys have covered whats been ur fav so far

Tammy/Sunny had been mentioned a few times in the Monday night wars doc. I do think there’s a future episode that will touch on the impact she had. She would have periods where she got temporarily clean, her wwe hof induction being one of them. Unfortunately you’d just keep hearing about these DUIs and arrests in the past 20 years. Her last one sadly cost someone else their life

As much of a genius as Paul Hayman is, back in his ECW days, he screwed over MANY people. In terms of empty promises, bounced checks, betrayals, and too many lies to count, Paul’s face is what you saw when you thought of any of those things. He was worse than Vince in some aspects. But it’s been years since he’s done a 180 and is now universally respected and a legit legend of the business. It seems for the most part, everyone who was an awful person in the 90s grew out of that afterwards.

I don’t know much about them as people or their stories besides this documentary. I’ve heard stuff about Sunny but just stories about her in wrestling. There’s a lot of stories like theirs of people falling into addictions with prescriptions. The cleanest people you’d never think would develop a problem get into that stuff like Kurt Angle. He won an Olympic medal but during his TNA run the fans had a nickname for him “Perc Angle” because it was known he would take them. It absolutely sucks but it’s a reality of the business I wish more people would take notice of. These wrestlers when they get out the ring or get away from their younger years the pain just doesn’t stop. That stuff can carry on and what you do now can affect how you are later on.

Yeah true, it was a way to keep your place on the card, but man is it sad what it did to some people. Glad they had someone to help them.

Tallywags

Yeahh I'd say this was the first time I've seen him in a negative light

Tallywags

That's crazy how much her life changed!

Drugs especially painkillers weren't just used they where pretty much encouraged in wrestling up until the mid 2000's.Back then you didn't take injury time unless you had no choice. Because if you did you would loose your spot on the card unless you where one of the absolute top guys. So because of that they where rampant in not just ECW but wrestling as a whole. It would honestly be easier to name the wrestler from that time period who didn't use some form of drug. It's why so many people form hat era are dead now. There was a period of time in the 2000's and early 2010's where at least once every couple month you would read of a wrestler from that era dying way to young. Somewhat related but this is also why most wrestling fans consider Diamond Dallas Page to be saint as he has personally helped several wrestlers turn there lives round. He is the reason why Jake the snake is still alive to this day and why Scott Hall lived almost two decades longer than anyone expected him to and that's just to name a few

So update on Tammy in 2023 she was sent to prison for 17 years because of the fatal car accident as this episode of dark side of the ring was done before her sentencing

RW____96

He’s a great on screen character and all that, but I don’t think I can forgive Paul Heyman the person for some of the stuff he did in ECW; that interview with Tammy being part of it. Using someone’s active drug addiction to pop ratings is crazy.
