I loved Shimmer and Shine back in the day. They had so many talents who either made the big career afterwards, some obviously didn't, and it was kind of a lose-lose situation for the older generation because they didn't really had a big time option since WWE was the monopoly in the USA and pretty much didn't want the good wrestlers, if they weren't of a certain type. TNA helped a bit, but they also had the "diva problem" in many aspects. I remember watching Evie (Dakota Kai), Athena (Ember Moon), Cherry Bomb (Allie/The Bunny) or Portia Perez as well as some others in these companies. Gladly some of them got the recognition at some time. Also pretty crazy that Bryce Remsburg is in so many of these matches. You might have not recognized him with hair and without a beard. He also reffed the "invisible man" matches, the CZW match with Steen/Generico, PWG stuff and is one of the main refs in AEW nowadays. A very colorful career in the indies.

2024-09-16 19:26:32 +0000 UTCIf I were a wrestler, and my opponent was clinging for dear life on the ropes, Id go for a big strike to knock them down. Also, using the ropes as a safe zone would be a good tactic for a cowardly heel. I feel like Ive seen it happen. Just not much these days.

2024-09-16 04:37:22 +0000 UTCFor a comparison of how WWE treated women's wrestling at the time, they had a PPV the same weekend as this tournament, and the only women's match on the card was Melina and Candice Michelle wrestling in an inflatable pool full of pudding. I wish that Shimmer had the Sara vs Lacey rematch from Volume 14 on their YouTube, since I was front row for that show (their first one not in Chicago).

At the time, there were mostly small clusters of female wrestlers spread over the US independent scene, usually wrestling the same few opponents over and over again. Shimmer was founded to bring the best from across the country (and usually a few international stars) together to record shows for DVD to increase their exposure. As you saw, a lot of the women in WWE now passed through Shimmer. Here are some of the names you might be familiar with who were on their early shows (before this title tournament) * Beth Phoenix * Nattie Neidhart * Rebecca Knox (Becky Lynch) before the medical issues mentioned in her Biography video. * Serena Deeb * Amazing Kong (if you haven't seen anything from her yet, you probably will in the next couple months) * Mercedes Martinez I'll probably post a follow-up once I have finished watching your reaction.
