Had the Owen situation happened fairly recently before this event, both or either one of these "falling from extreme heights" spots would have been in bad taste. I think you misunderstood what I said and assume I think they've never fallen off the top of the cell since then. The timing of the events is what would ruin it.

What Mick would say as Dude Love is inspired directly from Handsome Jimmy Valiant. Jimmy Valiant is a territory wrestler who was huge in the 80s in Memphis working angles with Lawler and then later on in the NWA. Handsome Jimmys gimmick was a psychedelic rock guy who’d wear bright colors and just had his own way of talking. Lookup some Handsome Jimmy Valiant promos you’ll hear Dude Love in there.

He’s a great story teller and you can usually do a meet and greet at his shows and he’s every bit as nice as he seems. His books about his career are phenomenal reads as well.

2024-09-10 04:17:11 +0000 UTCIn a rare instance of this documentary actually underselling how bad something WCW did was, the night that they spoiled Mick’s title win was the same night that they did the Finger Poke of Doom. That means that they were so confident that people would want to watch their hottest feud end with one guy laying down for the other instead of one of the most likable wrestlers ever winning the world title. Something else I noticed while watching this documentary is how many big names in the Monday Night War were previously underestimated/underutilized by WCW higher ups. Foley, Taker, Austin, Triple H, Big Show, and Chris Jericho all worked in WCW first. In some cases they were directly told that they wouldn’t amount to anything by the people in charge. When you look at it like that, the story of the Monday Night War is pretty satisfying.
