Queen's Quest v Oedo Tai - 12 Woman Cage Match

Comments

Saki Kashima, the one who was kicked out of OT as a result of this match, has quickly become one of my favorite Stardom wrestlers. She's not one of the best wrestlers, but her character and her story in Stardom has got me totally invested in her as a wrestler. Without going too far into spoilers, unless you're fine with it. Shortly after this show she does join another unit in Stardom, albeit it wasn't Queen's Quest. And I would argue it wound up being a way better choice for her because of her backstory with the leader of the unit she did join.

It’s usually just auto-generated captions which just give you gibberish.

This was my personal match of that year, because it was so emotional and special. Of course I could list many matches that I could call MOTY and others might make more sense, but this one gave me something else. The peak story angle with fantastic coordinated wrestling in the imo best women's wrestling promotion of this generation (most of the roster is in their early 20s, the twins f.e. were 17 in this match) was on my mind every time I thought about "best of lists" and on random occasions. It just shows how wonderful the international wrestling world is, you might start at some point in your wrestling fan "career", and for most people it is WWE (for me it was WCW & WWF shortly before I encountered ECW, ROH and puroresu), but the journey afterwards? It can lead you anywhere and you will never get the feeling that you have seen it all, because it is a giant playing field of hundreds of options to find some kind of gold and often your cup of tea is made in another promotion, country, continent, you just don't realize it yet. And yes, you can love so many flavors at the same time.

I like how they went about doing this with the rules. This relates to cage match rules the rule of escaping the cage is a new thing. That only started in the WWE idk when somewhere around the late 90s early 2000s. I like how they used the rule here because you can’t really have the cage be the structure that keeps 12 people in. If it was a wargames match setting that’d make more sense with the 12 people but the escaping the cage rule really works here. I wish the WWE now would get rid of it so we can go back to the cage being the thing that’s preventing you from leaving totally and if you leave the cage it’s a disqualification.

Four feels like a lot in a tag team cage match

Do have to mention that to my knowledge, Stardom matches didn’t start occurring on New Japan shows until New Japan started expanding into the west. Men’s and women’s wrestling has historically been kept completely apart in Japan.

This is something completely different so I’m excited to give it a watch.

Awesome! We could use some more womens wrestling

I love this match. I've been watching your youtube channel for awhile dporticus, and I'm just now deciding to sign up. I'm a huge fan of womens wrestling so youre gonna get a lot of sasha banks, bayley and becky lynch matches from me.

Stardom and New Japan are separate promotions. However, they are owned by the same company (Bushiroad) - so you’ll see Stardom matches on big New Japan shows sometimes. It’s all about brand synergy, cross promotion etc. (It’s worth noting that Bushiroad has a working relationship with AEW so you’ll see a lot of Bushiroad wrestlers on AEW shows.) WWE has a working relationship with the main competitors to the Bushiroad promotions and has started sending talent over (Iyo Sky, AJ Styles, NXT talent) to Japan. It can almost be a bit of a proxy war sometimes. Even over in Japan, WWE and AEW are fighting lol.

This is gonna be interesting 12 people is a lot of people in the cage. Can’t wait to see how they even go about doing this.

Momo gatekeeping the bat and taking with her out the cage pops me for some reason 😂😂

To summarize the stuff after the match, Natsuko, the OT leader, tells Saki Kashima that she sucks for losing and she hates her etc, and says she hates Utami too, usual heel stuff. AZM (second in command of QQ) and Saki have never really been friends but they also don't particularly have reason to hate each other, so AZM offered her a spot in the group. Saki by just leaving, obviously turned it down. Then Utami's promo, she basically apologized to Saya for not trusting her, then Saya told her she loves her, they hug, and Utami tells the rest of them that she loves them all to and she loves Queen's Quest. Then she said the QQ show-closing catch phrase, which is "Believe now, shine tomorrow, bow down to the queens." Also, the AZM v SLK match and Utami v Mayu Iwatani that I suggested last month and the month before were both Stardom matches as well. Stardom is Japan's biggest womens promotion, and is owned by the same parent company that owns NJPW.
