Fixing some more bugs that were brought to my attention and a slight improvement in the quest journal to make things easier to understand.

General

  • Quest descriptions for item requirements now use the familiar description string instead of the items name.

Golden Isle

  • Fixed a typo in the 'Golden Goods' store data that was causing the incorrect number of torches and shovels to be offered.
  • Fixed a typo in the 'Smugglers Den' store data that was causing the incorrect number of torches and shovels to be offered.

Isla Harbor

  • Fixed a typo at the 'General Store' store data that was causing the incorrect number of torches and shovels to be offered.

Queen 0.12f Release Candidate

This update has some bug fixes to the Abamond monster encounters and the addition of a new effect for weapons (Sharpness) as well as a new obtainable weapon to fill in  an itemization gap.

Upcoming Release Schedule

Hi everyone!

Just a quick note on the upcoming release schedule through the end of the month.

  • 23/06 - Patreon Play Test 0.12 (RELEASED)
  • 28/06 - Patreon RELEASE CANDIDATE 0.12 
  • 01/07 - Public Release 0.12
  • 06/07 - First Backer Release 0.13

As usual, there will be support / hotfixes for 0.12 throughout the month of July posted here first and eventually at other places time permitting. There may also be a surprise artwork update for Patrons on or around the middle to end of this week. Keep on the lookout for it!

Queen Play Test 0.12e Cheat Build

This is the cheat version of 0.12e for Fans and Backers.

Included in this update is a tiny upgrade to the cheat menu. At the bottom there is now a 'Misc' section that allows you to customize your characters name(s) and their girlfriends name as well.

Queen of the Seas - Play Test 0.12e

This version contains a continuation of Bertie's quest line, a new asset (pirate hat) and a new game system for Abamond.

You will find now that the caverns beneath Abamond are inhabited by ever increasingly difficult monsters that when defeated can occasionally drop 'relics'. These relics can be turned in after a simple quest to create a variety of powerful potion effects.

Please remember to post any bugs you find either to here, or to the subreddit (link in the game).

This should be the last hot fix on 0.11 - sorry for the unusually high number of post-release fixes. I feel like we're still tweaking stuff and patching stuff up from the huge amount of code that was part of 0.10.

This hotfix includes a fix for using items in combat (it works again) and now the difficulty setting controls how fast you lose willpower from corruption.

Pimpin' Pink Pirate Hats

I started moving on to the second part of the 0.12 update today - new graphical avatar assets. The image above contains a rough draft of 2 of the eventual 5 layers of vector drawing that will go into making the pirate hat. 

Once I get the rough dimensions worked out on the standard dummy model for each layer, I'm then going to have to do another pass and make those dimensions scale based on the players current head shape. It's about as fun to do as it sounds. 

There's a good chance that I won't get this 100% to where I want it to be on the first pass, as some of the embellishments I want to add (scalable skull and bones, shading, feather, etc) are frankly, a real pain in the ass to do correctly. However, I'll definitely get it into some sort of shape where it appears in the game, allowing you to start building out your pirate look.

On that note, I hope everyone is having a great weekend and look forward to the imminent 0.12 play test release that is coming up for Patreon supporters!

Rough draft of relic shop

Screenshot is mostly just for demonstration purposes! This probably isn't how the actual interface will work, but it's sufficient for me to work out all of the logic required for what I'm trying to do.

Basically, you will be able to turn in one (or more) normal items and some relics from Abamond and 'create' a new item. In the example above, those are all enhancement potions that grant stats, body changes or skills. There will also be a sub category of healing / cleansing foods, will power recovery foods, weapons and clothing.

It'll probably take me an additional 1-2 days to add all the items and get this looking how I want to it, but after that I'll drop 0.12c for the Backers and move on to the rest of the updates for this release. Like usual, I'll try to get a public play test out before the end of the month for all my Patrons.

I think after this however I'm going to close the book on Abamond, at least temporarily. I have additional plans for boss monsters and special story encounters, but it'll have to wait as I have other areas of the game to flesh out that are higher priority.

Trying desperately hard to not rewrite the shop system

Not that it couldn't use it. It's one of the oldest collections of code in the game and has existed since before jobs, quests, etc. 

I mean, it's not a bad system, but it has certain limitations that I don't really like. For instance, right now I am trying to do something kind of esoteric. I've added special relics to dig spots and monsters in Abamond and at one shop I would like for the player to be able to "spend" these relics as currency. Not that big of a deal, except the current shop interface doesn't really support this.

I've toyed with a couple of options here and I can't decide which one is better - rewriting at least part of the shop interface to be able to handle what is essentially "multiple currencies", or just making a custom one off interface for this particular shop that looks and feels like the normal shop interface.

Really, what it comes down to is "How much will I use this if I add it as an option to the main code base?" and I think the answer is "not very much", but then again... WHO KNOWS?

I mean, the idea of having special currencies is kind of cool. Like courtesan tokens or relics, these are things you can hunt for and then turn in for loot that you might need that isn't available in other ways (and doesn't lower you coins score). So, from a game play option, it's kind of cool. On the other hand, if this proliferates so that there are like a dozen different "currencies", then that's just a mind numbing pain for players. Clearly there's a fine line here that I don't want to cross.

Oh well, I'll probably come up with a solution sometime tomorrow and then push out 0.12c either then or the day after for Backers to mess around with. Once I figure out what I'm doing and implementing, all I have to do then is work out the rewards... which is largely just data entry on my part due to the way I structured the game.

I know, "very interesting stuff"... er not, but hey, this is what keeps me up until *looks at clock* almost 1am on a Monday night... sheesh!

0.12 Update - Monsters in the Depths!

Along with adding more content that heads towards the Mutiny! ending. I'm trying to get in at least a partial update to Abamond that includes adding monster encounters and collectables that can be turned in for potions and other power ups. 

The gif above displays the guts of the system - basically I added monster spawning and AI path finding to the Rogue-Like, but then merged it with our JRPG style combat system. 

There's still a lot of work to do here on the technical side, but the most daunting part is going to be creating the custom combat assets I need for the monsters that I'm going to add. We'll probably start out not so ambitious and then fill it in over time with more entertaining stuff.

Backers should be able to access this new content in a few days, so stay tuned!

Post a Pirate, win a Prize

So... I had to do a lot of reading up on this to make sure it was all above the board, and it turns out that while I can't do a raffle for Patrons only, I can do a give away for anyone who uses the site. 

So, here it is - our first annual (um what?) community event!
