Paul Heyman's 'stole my life, my money, my legacy' shoot on Vince

Comments

True, but there’s an extra few min of content before the YT clip started as well. Looks good on Peacock, watching it now. The video quality is always cleaned up on Peacock but the downside is you sometimes get some songs removed/replaced.

This is absolutely legendary. For context, this was three days before Survivor Series 2001 where Team WWF (Rock, Jericho, Undertaker, Kane and Big Show) faced The Alliance (of WCW and ECW) (Austin, Angle, RVD, Booker T and Shane McMahon). Austin was also a heel which is why they booed when Heyman mentioned him. In kayfabe Shane bought WCW in March (which is when Vince actually bought the company) and Stephanie bought ECW in July. But then it turned out Heyman didn’t have the rights to the ECW name so the WWF couldn’t use the name on TV so they merged the two groups and called them The Alliance.

Amazing promo from the best stick man ever. Please find the episode on Peacock next time. This audio quality is wretched, lol.

This promo becomes a lot more funny when you realize the WWF was helping out ECW. Vince was paying Paul a monthly rate to help keep the doors open at one point. That story about Vince’s dad is true. Vince’s dad did NOT want to compete with the territories at all he wanted them to stay and before he passed away he made Vince promise he wasn’t going to compete. What did Vince Mcmahon do as soon as his dad died? He started going around to all of the territories and putting them out of business. When you really get into the nitty gritty of how Vince took the WWF national you realize he left a lot of ruined careers, livelihoods and organizations built up from decades of work left ruined in his path. A lot of guys went to the WWF and were big stars but a lot of them didn’t and if you don’t know the territories you might not ever be introduced to them.

thank you both for reacting! and thanks to all the commenters providing some context, I planned on doing so now but I don't think there's much more I could add to the other comments. Personally, what really sticks out to me in this promo after all this time, is how long the content of it remained relevant. Along with how it speaks to the general nature of 2000s - 2020 WWE and the ruthless business practices of Vince. Not to mention, the way Paul structures and delivers it. In an era where "wrestling" is no longer a dirty word, I almost see it as a brief time capsule of wrestling history. I do recommend the "inside the ropes" interview segment I linked if you find spare time. He gives a lot of insight not only to this situation but "shoots" in general.

Just imagine if we had the promo where Samoa Joe choked out Heyman this week too. It's on my list to suggest eventually.

Adam Nelson

Apparently between this and All In this is “Taz leaves the announce desk to choke out an old man week”

Wade Kruse

Say what you will about Vince (and there’s a lot to say), but he was always willing to get both verbally and physically destroyed as long as it would draw money.

Ryan Redd

Hot take= i would take Tazz and Cole over Pat mcafee and Cole. Absolutely love Tazz and Cole 🔥🔥

Phillyman!!

Paul is a legend on the mic.

Vansonny

And yes fantastic promo is an understatement. Heyman is a LEGEND. BUT just imagine if this was Eric Bitchoff

Phillyman!!

If you didn’t know Tazz was the one who help his son hook at All In last Sunday

Glad this got suggested my absolute favorite promo of all time. The interview you where talking about was actually Paul Heyman himself and it was about this very promo. Heyman asked Vince if he wanted to know what he was going to say and that he was going to say everything he wanted to say to Vince for years as in his mind WWE only blew up during the attitude era because they ripped off ECW. Vince's response was "I don't care just make me money". So Paul did just that and vented every frustration he had with Vince

Drew Or Die

The go make me money line was to Paul Heyman about this particular promo. He didn't even ask permission. All he asked was if Vince wanted a heads up on anything he was going to say. As far as the Stone Cold hat, this is right at the end of the infamous Alliance invasion story. Right after WWE bout WCW and ECW the companies invaded. In story, Shane bout WCW and Stephanie bought ECW so they could run Vince out of buisness. Austin ends up being the main heel in the story, and Heyman is the heel commentator on Raw and sometimes in backstage stuff, so he's always hyping Austin.

Vince is a monster But a brilliant one- he did run everyone out of business He did go back on his father's word He did get sadistic pleasure in doing all this And since this he's only become worse(as recent allegations would make obvious) And yeah Heyman is fucking awesome lol

Paul Watson

Yes, this was the "make me money" promo. Heyman actually went up to Vince a few times earlier in the day to double check whether Vince wanted to know what he was going to say beforehand.
