I don’t think I’ve ever related to promo more than MJFs Roles of Quarters.

2024-09-22 21:31:49 +0000 UTCThe whole Omega & Hangman saga is still the centerpiece of AEW's storytelling, this MJF & Punk feud is just a feud... for my taste nothing really special, but important for some. The character development around Hangman is the main story arc (if needed) in AEW and now will have had another chapter with Swerve. The sad part is that the whole Punk distress took away Hangman as the champ and creating the original second chapter. Such a shame, but I am glad that he can now keep on telling the most interesting character study I have ever seen in mainstream wrestling.

2024-09-22 19:54:09 +0000 UTCJust wanna add that one aspect of the experience that you might not have gotten was the feeling of seeing MJF's villain origin story. The Just a Friday promo wasn't just a sob story. When it happened, we the audience realized that it was the pivot point. He's a villain not because something bad happened to him, but because of how he responded to it. Also, as others have said, Hangman's like, the best character. But you've seen the Good, the Bad and the Elite, so you more or less know the story.

2024-08-24 15:50:40 +0000 UTCDaniel Bryan was this awesome wrestler in WWE. I think he left in 2021 to go work at El Generico's orphanage in Mexico. I really wish was wrestling still.

2024-08-23 17:34:41 +0000 UTCI agree that the storylines are sometime long running, where if you just turn in on a random week you may just get a quick match that unknowingly is part of a long term story line!

2024-08-23 16:11:06 +0000 UTCWade, I have been trying to figure out a way to explain how AEW does things and I think you did it perfect. Hope you have a good All In!

2024-08-23 16:06:40 +0000 UTCMJFs story w adam cole last year was one of my absolute favorites. But nothing else really close since IMO

2024-08-23 06:19:13 +0000 UTCOne thing I’d have mentioned is this fan made video itself. It incorporated ROH footage, a tiny bit of WWE footage, and AEW footage of course. Just extremely well done. Gonna have to check out more of his work!

2024-08-22 23:21:14 +0000 UTCThe hangman vs Swerve feud is on this level and I’ll say it’s the Austin vs Rock of AEW and that’s the storyline that’s interconnected at the moment with the AEW world championship, also MJF vs Ospreay is coming to this level rn I would say. AEW does like recaps of storylines on YouTube before ppvs so if you’re trying to catchup just go on there and you’ll see them
Mohammed Drame
2024-08-22 23:02:54 +0000 UTCI voted for that. What an amazing performance by both William and max

2024-08-22 22:38:18 +0000 UTCAEW does have and has had plenty of good storylines, the “AEW doesn’t do stories” crowd is generally people either posting in bad faith or people who only think WWE-style stories count. There are several hot storylines happening right now. Swerve and Hangman have been in a blood feud for close to a year, with it spilling over into other storylines. Toni Storm and Mariah May has been another great long-term story. MJF vs Ospreay is going into Wembley very hot. Hangman Page in general is one of the best long-term characters in wrestling who has had a fascinating journey over the course of AEW’s life, going from a confident blue-chipper to a man struggling with anxiety and depression, who pushed all his friends away and hit rock bottom before eventually finding new friends and a new lease on life, building himself back up again and becoming the champion we knew he could be. But eventually that all came crashing down. He lost his title, lost his friends, and is now losing his grip on his sanity as Swerve has pretty much ruined his life. One of the biggest reasons I follow AEW is to see where his character goes from here. The thing about AEW is that it does a lot less of the WWE’s specific type of storytelling. There are less long promo battles, less melodrama, less pomp and circumstance. It’s not devoid of these things, like in this MJF vs Punk feud. It can still do those types of stories, but it also does a lot of stories that are simpler and where a lot of it is told in ring. A lot of matches happen because the two people in the ring are professional wrestlers who’s main character motivation is to win pro wrestling matches and become champions. So a lot of AEW’s stories are based more around the fictional sport and the kinds of stories that happen in sports: competitive rivalries, dealing with streaks or slumps, dealing with injuries, wanting to prove oneself, etc. It’s less soapy than WWE. And personally I’m glad for that. No value judgement, neither way is better. But I’d much rather both companies focus on their own presentation.

2024-08-22 22:02:24 +0000 UTCEven WWE only has a feud on this level once or twice a decade. This was just that good and even now Max is only 28. Imagine what he can potentially manage over the next 20 years.
Adam Nelson
2024-08-22 21:46:01 +0000 UTCThis was a great fan-produced video package. Well, I guess I can take the "Is that true" promo off my list of future suggestions since it was in this in pretty much its entirety. There are still some good bits from their original promo between them that were trimmed out of this. Max is an amazing heel, and the occasional "but is he justified?" promos like this just make him that much more compelling. He had another promo with William Regal that I submitted one week, but it didn't get enough votes.

2024-08-22 21:43:15 +0000 UTCThere's never really been any story line quite like this in AEW. There are a few going on right now that have already been mentioned by others that are really good. Which is probably the closest where going to get to anything quite like this.
Drew Or Die
2024-08-22 21:38:42 +0000 UTCIt's always hard when you jump into any wrestling show a week at a time. Seeing all of thosr storybeats back to back really helps you see the nuances as the story develops over time. If you'd tuned in to just one of those weeks though, all you might've gotten was a seemingly innocuous beatdown, for example. That said, this is still probably my second favourite long-term story AEW ever told, second only to Hangman's 'Anxious Millennial Cowboy' arc (which you'll have seen the tiniest glimpse of during the Young Bucks/Hangman & Omega match).

2024-08-22 21:19:21 +0000 UTCThe only thing that has come close to this was the feud with MJF and Daniel Bryan before their Iron Man Match. In AEW only a few of the really talented people have managed to pull off a big angle like this.

2024-08-22 20:51:36 +0000 UTCI was at All Out 21 and Cm Punk did give everyone free ice cream

2024-08-22 20:26:47 +0000 UTCYeah nothing in AEW before that feud was as good and nothing has reached those heights since. You hit the nail on the head when you said the story wrote itself and it was perfect. The stars aligned to make something this special. And witnessing it in real time week to week was unreal. Cm Punk and MJF are promo masters, and in his prime, Punk was definitely seen as one of the best in the ring. MJF is years away from hitting his prime and he’s already one of the best wrestlers on the planet. When the world was well informed that wrestling was scripted, these two guys were able to make the fans genuinely hate them, and not the Dominic Mysterio kinda hate. Legit hate. Both are true heels when the time calls for it. In this day and age tho, unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your view of wrestling) Max was too talented in the ring and on the microphone to be hated for very long and eventually got himself over and gained the respect of the fans for his entertaining heel work. He even keeps the same heel vibe in public and in interviews. Now everyone chants “He’s our scumbag” when MJF shows up.

2024-08-22 18:45:19 +0000 UTCAEW doesnt have anything fully on this level but right now is easily the best that the story telling has been since 2021 id say. Ospreay/Max Swerve/Bryan Swerve/Hangman Mariah/Toni. the build to this years all in and last years are night and day. Im so hyped for the weekend

2024-08-22 18:37:25 +0000 UTCThere really isn't much that reaches this level, but Danielsons retirement tour has struck a chord with me at least. Partially because Danielson (along with Punk funny enough) is what got me really invested in wrestling. You've seen some Danielson stuff and seem to enjoy it so definitely recommend checking out his promo from Dynamite last night!

2024-08-22 18:35:09 +0000 UTCAnother note. They have some great stories leading into All In on Sunday. MJF is fighting Will Ospreay - the story started out with MJF turning himself into a patriot for USA and changed the International Title to the American Title, which he beat Will Ospreay for on Dynamite with 2 seconds to spare on the 60 minute time limit. Ospreay being British it's very much MJF fighting on enemy territory, but within their go home segment on Wednesday MJF (again dropping his guard down and revealing his true feelings) said that the reason hes going after Ospreay is that when he got injured at the time he was the top babyface in the company and everybody loved him. Upon his return he's realised that he's no longer the favourite and Ospreay is. So that brought back the horrible bitter MJF. Other matches of note: Swerve Strictland Vs Bryan Danielson - AEW World title Vs Danielsons Career. This match has been built in such a way that honestly.... Either outcome could be amazing. We could get a real feel good moment of Danielson winning his first AEW Title, or it's the retirement of one of the best wrestlers in the world who made a promise to his own daughter that when she turned 7 he would retire and spend more time with her. Mariah May Vs Toni Storm for the AEW Womens World Title - this story was set in stone since before Mariah even debut with AEW. It's on the basis of the film All About Eve where basically an understudy idolises an actress (Mariah idolises Toni) and slowly builds a true friendship that blossoms into Toni finally taking Mariah in under her wing and forming a bond to which she pushed Mariah to take part in a tournament that earned her a title shot for Tonis title. Soon as she won, Mariah instantly turned on Toni and beat her ruthlessly on the ramp till toni was covered in blood. One of their best angles to date. They have spent weeks attacking eachother and they will finally have their match Sunday. There is more, but I would imagine you may have switched off by now 😂😂

2024-08-22 18:15:00 +0000 UTCMJF has a match against Will Ospreay at All In. Two watchalong favourites, should be a great one.

2024-08-22 18:04:03 +0000 UTCSo glad you both enjoyed it. The Maxwell swerve in the story had us all fooled. Most of us usually can see where a story is leading but when he cut "that" promo about when he was a kid it blew us all away. We had only seen the arrogant MJF that insulted everyone up untill that point and he switched it up on us and made us feel sorry for him. Only to use it against CM Punk to beat him. This feud was the combination of 2 great minds within pro wrestling telling a real life story through the medium of wrestling. The whole thing wrote itself and was perfected by both Punk and MJF along the way. No writers were involved in the whole thing. This is why CM Punk through his faults and his triumphs is so loved, because this is how he makes people feel when he's able to really be creative. Thanks for watching!
