2024-08-12 11:31:42 +0000 UTCI think your criticisms of AOP are entirely valid but they've been booked really poorly since they got called up from NXT. In NXT they were billed as a couple guys who you might see as bouncers at a bar prone to fights, just big giant thugs who could beat the shit out of anyone they come across, and they were booked to carve a trail through the tag division like a hot knife through butter. On the main roster they have a similar gimmick but they're booked to lose at least as often as they win, so there's no heat behind it. I don't know if they'll ever be household names but with some decent writing I think they could get over with the main roster crowd, but they need a streak of dominant wins and they need a mouthpiece who can talk them up properly to a more casual audience. I'm not going to say that Paul Ellering wouldn't be able to do that, but he sure *hasn't* done it, and considering I've barely heard a dozen words from his mouth in the past two years I don't think he's the best guy for the job. Maybe now that Karrion Kross is getting mic time he can pull them back into relevance, but it's still a work in progress at best.

The thing about Paul Ellering is that he was responsible for their success in NXT, by being their mouthpiece. When AOP debuted on raw in 2018, Vince got rid of Paul and he just put Akam and Rezar in an idiotic storyline with Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens, trying to make Rollins the new leader of AOP. As you can imagine it completely failed and they were soon released. And now bringing them back and pairing them with terribly unsuccessful Kross… Just a shame. It’s a good tag team but you have to book them correctly to get a reaction

He managed the Road Warriors in the 80's together they where the biggest draw in wrestling outside of Hulk Hogan. That makes them to my knowledge the only tag team in history to out draw the top guy of there respective company. For perspective that would be like DIY outdrawing Roman Reigns today

He managed the Legion of Doom who are probably the most influential tag team of all time. He also apparently managed their careers and contract negotiations off screen as well. He was entered in the hall of fame in the early 2010s.

Just because someone’s booking is not very good, doesn’t mean they don’t have talent and can’t be entertaining. There have been many cases in which a talent held back by Vince has gotten the chance to shine under this new era. Just my opinion though. 🤷🏾♂️

In mxt they eventually got over precisely because they just randomly debuted on an nxt episode and just buldozed thru the tag division. I remember everyone thinking they were going to lose to diy too and they surprised everyone by winning. NXT aop was booked like the final bosses of the tag division, these 2 monsters that no team could keep up with. Even forcing rivals like diy and the revival to team up against them. Main Roster aop are booked like the looney toons with teams like new day and fn Alpha academy outsmarting them every week lol.

Dport you’ve probably seen those guys with the football pads with the spikes and the facepaint. I’m gonna submit one of these months Road Warriors vs Midnight Express in a Scaffold Match for you to see what the Road Warriors were like and what Paul Ellering is like.
