Feedback Session: Better CAS?
Added 2023-02-08 14:53:21 +0000 UTCThis is by no means a confirmed project, but if I were to create a Better CAS (See Better BuildBuy for reference) what would be some essential features you'd like to see in such a mod?
Think of annoyances or other scenarios where you've thought "I wish it behaved like this instead" while using CAS.
Individual Kit filters are already a given.

Yeah I wondered how difficult it might be to do.. Thank you for the quick response!

2023-03-18 03:03:06 +0000 UTCIt's something I'm looking into but doesn't seem to be any easy way to do it. Might have to come in a later version.

2023-03-17 14:36:54 +0000 UTCI don't know if you are still taking suggestions here but if so, I would absolutely love a text search box like build/buy has. I have over 10000 mods in my game so scrolling through to try to find the one I wants can be tedious.

2023-03-17 14:16:34 +0000 UTCIf possible, it'd be cool if we'd get that little gold "new" marker on new cc we add to our game the first time we load the game after installing that cc.

2023-02-20 18:21:37 +0000 UTCThe ability to extract the cc's file name in CAS so it can be easily deleted if it's something that the player decides they don't like or if it is broken.

2023-02-17 17:54:20 +0000 UTC8. I would love for the pack items to be grouped together. I think in the beginning it started like this all get together stuff grouped together in the catalog. And now it's the Wild West out there with pack different pack items dropped wherever they land. Not quite sure why they abandoned a consistent sort order.

2023-02-15 21:07:57 +0000 UTCI really doubt it's possible. So right now if you have any defaults eyes/skin and upload load a sim with just those defaults the game would still mark them as having CC. It'd be nice to be able to upload those sims without them being marked as having CC.

2023-02-15 21:05:57 +0000 UTCCan you elaborate on how #7 would work in game. Keep in mind everything would occur while in CAS mode
TwistedMexi
2023-02-15 19:42:50 +0000 UTC6. The ability to dress sims in locked/hidden in-game assets without an additional mod that if you accidentally leave in during gameplay might result in your mailmen wearing ballgowns to deliver mail. 7. The ability to turn off CC when uploading to the gallery so you sim isn't marked as having CC

2023-02-15 19:31:00 +0000 UTCAnything that translates from BBB to CAS is already a given so CC will definitely be toggleable.

2023-02-15 19:11:09 +0000 UTCMy time has come! 1. A way to filter CC off. One would think the purchased filter would turn CC off but it does not and it's annoying. 2. Copy makeup/accessories across categories 3. More filters for hairstyles (braids/buns etc...) 4. More filters for clothing categories (specifically if a shirt is tucked or not) 5. And now my brain has blanked so I'll be back with more thoughts later :D

2023-02-15 19:06:21 +0000 UTCI don't know if it's possible, but oh my god I want to be able to create my own saved outfits

2023-02-12 05:27:54 +0000 UTCOh yea! That's definitely a better alternative in the meantime.

2023-02-11 22:20:06 +0000 UTCSide note, Better Exceptions can find which cc is on a sims outfit. Still have to see them in the world but quicker than tray importer

2023-02-11 17:53:41 +0000 UTC-I'd really like the "hide maxis" and turn cc on/off feature like BBB has. -A search feature, like search a cc creators name and be able to see all their stuff just like we do in build/buy. -More categories (or filters) for hair. We have short, medium, long, and updo. But I'd also like things like bangs, no bangs, half updo. Also, more texture options. I think it's straight, wavy, and afro right now but non textured curly hair shows up in the afro section. There should be a separate curly hair section. -More categories (or maybe filters) for piercings so we can filter and see just earrings or just nose rings, etc. -If possible, creating styles in game. Meaning those fully styled outfits that are ready to go and you click it and boom your sim is fully dressed. The name is escaping me. -Maybe have a sit and stand option (kinda like how pets can sit, stand, and lay down) so we can see the outfits when they're sitting because sometimes shirts will clip weird with certain pants or skirts but you won't know it until they're sitting. -Someone already mentioned, but I'd like to reiterate, being able to see the cc file name when you hover over it would be amazing. I know you can put cc on a sim and then run them through tray importer to find bad cc/cc you want to remove but if I could just see the file name that'd be even quicker and easier.

2023-02-11 02:26:45 +0000 UTCThe ability to quickly set filters based on a sim’s likes and dislikes, similar to how build mode works when doing the interior decorator career. During gameplay I’ll frequently ask townies their fashion and color preferences and then modify them so they’re wearing what they like.

2023-02-09 09:52:34 +0000 UTCI know someone already mention for the occult to stand still, but it would be nice if all the sim could stand still, they don't need to move or smile or even react when you change their trait.

2023-02-08 23:57:44 +0000 UTCI would like to be able to stack clothing and accessories and choose which one goes on top.

2023-02-08 22:44:14 +0000 UTCI would like my occult sims to stand still and for toddlers to stop saying crap. t would also be nice to be able to hide clothing. I used to always play in a medieval world. Sometimes, I would use plain socks but everything else would be custom content. So if we could hide all or hide some. That would be amazing!

2023-02-08 21:55:47 +0000 UTC*The option - That make up and accessories can be adopted and you don't have to re-make up per outfit. *More Collumns integrated, where you can switch the columns on and off as needed. *Always CAS-Edit on *Favorites System-Per category maybe 5 items can be favorited to be displayed at the top. *The opportunity to color hair and hair accessories individually like animals or werewolves. *The opportunity to hide Items (I look at you, eyeballring!) *The opportunity, to mark Objects as "favorit" or "hate it" (symbols in upper right corner?) wich moves them first/last in CAS-Catalog Thanks for asking.

2023-02-08 21:17:50 +0000 UTCI would like to have more slots for each type of clothing. For example, now the number of slots for everyday, festive, winter, etc. is five. And there are much more options for how I would like to dress my character. It would be nice to have additional seats for each kind. Let's say 10 seats each.

2023-02-08 20:44:33 +0000 UTCI wish to know the creator of the BB or CAS item(s) on the thumbnail.
GeorgiaMommyPeach
2023-02-08 19:40:19 +0000 UTCFinding CC items or for searching in S4S or other programs. It's just something I've often thought would be handy. Also, a wider range of filters to sort by style category and whatnot.

2023-02-08 19:21:52 +0000 UTCSure. Admittedly, a lot of this is probably preaching to the choir given how advanced some of the things you've pulled off are, but I figure it's better to cover the bases than assume. You know how sometimes when using specific pieces of Custom Content on a Sim it'll turn another part the wrong color? That's because every Sim technically uses a compiled image for their texture mapping, based on all the textures of their parts. Here's an example of how they break down: https://64.media.tumblr.com/c7b95f0f4de358859534898da7dfd491/05d4b1a718d73b52-c0/s2048x3072/72feaf7b535e6a8bac3aa3955ce913c17a6936a9.png The best-known demonstration of this is when two conflicting textures from different parts (typically CC but some Maxis parts have done it in the past before being silently fixed) are mapped to overlap incorrectly on a Sim and it creates what I call "texture clipping", where suddenly your gold earrings are black, your hair looks like newsprint, one eyeball is glowing a bright red or you have what looks like a skinned Sim on the front of your tee shirt. Being able to see how a Sim's combined textures map on the fly in-game, probably in a small thumbnail in a corner or something, would be a good way to diagnose what content doesn't play well together and even allow creators to know their mods' limits and revise them accordingly. Still, as I said, it might be too much work for too little payoff, given the scope and focus of a "Better CAS" probably falls more in expanding basic displays, UI and CAS mechanics than adding something completely new, and admittedly kinda niche, like that.

2023-02-08 18:23:22 +0000 UTCWhat do you mean by "easier to find"? Would you then put that into a search for the catalog, or do you mean finding CC files?
TwistedMexi
2023-02-08 18:06:13 +0000 UTCEchoing being able to strip a new sim automatically and copying outfits inc makeup in CAS.
LateNightLime
2023-02-08 17:45:51 +0000 UTCOr the ability to edit flags right in CAS!
RonL
2023-02-08 17:40:44 +0000 UTCI would like to have a pop-up or something that says what CAS item I'm focused on so it's easier to find. For example, it could pop up "yfTop_EP08JacketVestTweed" when clicked on that item.
RonL
2023-02-08 17:39:46 +0000 UTCCan you elaborate on what you mean by "full generated Sim texture"?
TwistedMexi
2023-02-08 17:02:29 +0000 UTCI know that when I'm dressing my Sim in CAS, I would like the first outfit and makeup to copy over to all other outfits. This would allow me to just do the same makeup on my Sim each outfit. I would like it if we were presented with the options for changing skin color, eye shape, body, shape, etc. first, and then go to the outfits next. Just a thought. I will keep thinking on this.
frenchfry14595
2023-02-08 16:16:58 +0000 UTCA way to quickly "strip" a starter Sim (as in, get rid of makeup, facial hair, hats, piercings, accessories, etc) on a per-outfit basis might help, because the game LOVES putting awkward tattoos and piercings on Sims I don't find until later. That, or a way to disable specific asset types on Sims generated in CAS. Another thing that might help would be offering a way to lock Sims to one of a handful of facial expressions (e.g. smile, frown, rage, open mouth, blinking, surprised, etc.) while editing features to make sure they don't look weird later. If we're getting REALLY advanced (probably way too much effort for this kind of mod), a way to see the full generated Sim texture might be nice, too. That way we can know if assets are overlaying one another and leading to texture clipping in ways they shouldn't be. EDIT: Oh, thought of one more! A fix so that the sliders don't reset when you go in to edit makeup.
Corona MacGuinness
2023-02-08 16:12:53 +0000 UTCThe ability to copy the current makeup and/or accessories across all of a Sim's outfits in CAS would be quite handy. Maybe a toggle for Full Edit and Career Unlocks, too, similar to BBB's Move Objects and Entitlement toggles. If this ends up conflicting with the More Columns mod, then an expandable catalog button is a must.

2023-02-08 15:37:58 +0000 UTCSomething I would like to see is height adjustments. I know there are mods who do that, but if it could all be in one mod instead of having a ton, that would be amazing. The ability for kid & teen sims to have the same amount of traits as YA and Adult sims would also be great.
