Hard agree.

Funny thing on the point about people thinking you seem genuine - it took a lot of people independently recommending your channel over a long span of time for me to properly get into it and, looking back, I think the reason was that I was used to a very conversational style when delivering video essays (think Jenny Nicholson) and your tone is, as you point out, quite performative. It took me a while to appreciate how brilliantly it works for you because you're not just a video essayist - you're a storyteller. And to quote a great man: "just because something's fake, doesn't mean it can't be honest." That genuineness people are sensing isn't about delivery, it's about believing that you're telling stories because you genuinely believe they're worth telling. Believing that you're passionate about the things you display passion in and that you want to enrich people's life experience with your work. You're right, of course - I can't know that for sure. But I don't think it's wrong-headed for people to believe it. I certainly do.

Damn. I'd never heard of this character before, so went in with a really open mind here. Will definitely have to go back and watch the shows now. I love the way you explore and articulate your analyses. It's not a new idea, the blurry edge between a person and their persona/s, but you present it in such an engaging way here!

Really nice video. The theme of authenticity/illusion in media seems to recur in your videos, so you should check out House of Leaves if you haven't already. It's a book that describes a documentary in excruciating detail, but that documentary doesn't exist. The protagonist is also writing part of the story that we see. It's uncanny.

wow, I felt like I had gone too deep just watching this exploration video. Very fun, you made the hour seem like 15minutes. For discussion of the topic, Carl Jung presents the argument that who we are depends on our environment and the persona it puts us under so I don't think there is much of a meaningful difference between what we consider or personas since most of us cannot objectively identify our true selves anyway.

I must admit I was not familiar with Nathan, but I went through the journey and I must say your thought in the final part are something I found myself considering too from time to time. On a side note, knowing your love for professional wrestling, when you were discussing example of blending the boundaries between a fictional personand the real person I almost expected you to bring up MJF. ;-)

There are few more exciting-in-a-way-that-can-be-explained-in-less-than-an-hour things than SEW using the phrase, "its a weird one."

The robot story was so believeable, I actually thought to myself that I remembered you telling that story on LFAB. Maybe I am just thinking of Bryan teasing you in the robot voice???

Just finished Nathan for you not too long ago! Already very very excited for the video!
