Riverdale: The Show That Went Completely Insane
Added 2021-09-25 13:38:22 +0000 UTCHello Friends.
We have a new video.
Apologies about the general lateness with this one, nothing negative, but ive had a lot of life stuff to take care of recently (super eyepatch wolf is a business now hurray), and that along with taking some time to recover from some burn out meant this video took a little longer than usual.
Im way behind on patron discord messages, but Ill be back on them next week. Also going to be announcing the next watch party soon, as well as the Patron QNA video channel- I want to start doing exclusive patron qna vids, so feel free to drop your questions on the discord.
Ill be very active from next week, and I know I owe you guys some stuff, but thanks for your patience, it means a lot I have an audience thats so chill.
I was up till 3am last night, gonna sleep now, but enjoy the video, I had a lot of fun making it.
As always, thanks so much for the support <3

2021-09-27 16:52:02 +0000 UTCWhen I started watching Riverdale, I thought it was legitimately interesting and a breath of fresh air compared to what I was normally used to watching. By season 4 I was watching it because it was completely insane. Funnily enough, my most pronounced memory of the show is the episode in tribute to Fred Andrews/Archie's dad's actor. I remember watching it and going "Huh... it's nice that they did this, but it feels so out of place in context with the rest of the series." The ironic part is that later that day my dad passed away. (No worries, the grief is passed.) I love this video because it perfectly encapsulates the absolutely insane turns that the plot made. I can't wait to start watching the latest season.

2021-09-27 04:26:05 +0000 UTCFinally someone talking about Riverdale! Only one of my friends has picked up my recommendation about it I do unfortunately disagree with aspects of this video that any other of yours I've watched. I just think there is a level of tongue in cheek and of incredible self awareness to Riverdale, very much including the first series that your video doesn't really acknowledge. It's a show knew exactly what it was doing from the first time Archie took his top off. It had a tight plot in S1 and they clearly never expected to get a s2 but I do think the evolution from S1 to S2 is far less jarring than you make out. S1 was about a father murdering his son because his son discovered their maple syrup empire is was actually a large scale drug smuggling operation and wanted to run away with the woman he got pregnant who was essentially his cousin from the secret side of the family they have a feud with. I watched it when it went out and from the start was loving it and laughing at it for cause as far as I'm concerned the show has at every point been acutely aware of it's absurdity, it's just after s1 they didn't have a plan and decided to double down on those elements to frankly glorious results* I don't think it ever intended to deal with teen social issues in the way you think it should have, arguably often subverted those expectations. It was never a show that grounded in reality. I also just think it was better than you give it credit for. I suspect it blew up in s2 cause of VoD and the fact s1 was a pretty solid, funny, really well made and good looking great self contained teen drama/mystery. *Well apart from Archie, I did feel however funny it his role evolved from aspiring musician to homoerotic militia leader to bare knuckle prison boxer to gangster etc etc they never really worked out what they wanted to do with him after s1 (although I've not got round to the last few latter seasons yet) in the way they did with the rest of the cast. And he kind of just separates out from the rest of the show because I don't think they know how to deal with him when Betty and Jughead emerge as the real core of the show.
