The Manga that Breaks People

A new video just went live on the channel!

So this time we’re talking about “Chi no Wadachi” or “A Trail of Blood” (Also known as “Blood on the Tracks”). I started reading this manga about two years ago, and it really turned my blood cold, and I thought for a long time about how to tackle it in a video, and well, today's the result.

I was pretty happy with the response to my last video on Outlaw Star, but if I'm going to be honest, there were parts of the process  that I didn't feel too excited, just because there were sections I'd felt like Id done a lot before, and it wasn't really a challenge. I still think it's an ok video, but I came out of it hungry to do something weirder.

This video was the total opposite of that, its a weird subject matter in a difficult to edit media, and so it really took a lot of time and effort to shape the video into what I wanted, but because of that it was really fun to work on, even though it was pretty stressful.

Looking back at a video now (especially this second, where I'm watching it upload) is always kind of nerve racking, there's always little parts of a video you wish you could tighten up or redo, but I know that that's also a road to madness, a video never really feels 100% done, but at some point I think the healthiest option is to accept that this is your current limit, and its best to move on to what ever comes next.

That said, I'm pretty happy with this one, feels like one of those videos where I really gave it everything I had, and I really hope people can feel that from it.

I'm going to be taking the next week off, I've been working straight since the beginning of the year, and while the channels been doing really well, and im happy with my output, I can feel the early stages of burn out setting in, and I think I kind of need to make a health call and just rest up for a bit. That said, it shouldn’t actually effect my schedule too much, and the next video should be dropping in around three weeks.

Anyway, guys, i am rambling yet again, I really hope you enjoy the video and thanks again for the continued support <3

Hi! I came across this video while looking for the trail of blood music from the original Final Fantasy 7 (which also suits the theme of the video haha). I thought it was very well done and so subscribed and became a Patreon. I have a love hate relationship with horror so I appreciated the gentle analysis 😅 I also really enjoyed your video on devotion (and detention) seeing the history and social connections really creates an extra pain and horror which I might have missed out without watching so thank you. Anyway I know this was posted months ago but I thought it might still be interesting to know ☺️

This one made me subscribe. Stupid that YouTube is so puritanical on their monetization policies. Reading Trail of Blood now, loving it so far

Quite possibly my favourite YouTube video essay.

great work daddy

the problem with horror in mi opinion is, as you mentioned a very profitable genre, thats because the budget needed to film a horror movie its normally low, making it cheaper that other genres, so...yes its a normally a cheap genre...literally. But for that reason, its a genre that can provide a lot more new ideas.

I'd be interested in this, as well.

You've sold me on this. I'm going to look it up after work today. you've also sold me on becoming a patron for your channel! Your videos are always so eloquent. It's easy to tell that these are subject matters that give you a great deal of thought as well as passion. I'm here for it!

I read it in one going til chapter 75 after the video. Beautifully drawn, gut wrenching story. I felt bad after reading. Still looking forward to the next chapter though.

smoof

I started reading this manga when you mentioned it on the bosscast and caught up to it that very same day. I completely forgot about it and now this video has reminded me and given me the chance to go read more of this terrifying masterpiece. Great video!

The world is a horrific place right now, but thank you for doing a horror video instead of a distraction from it

Awesome video !

Another quality video! I'm a die-hard Junji Ito fan, and am desperate for other top tier horror manga writers. You mentioned several older authors, and I know Ito has stated his greatest influences are Kazuo Umezu and Hideshi Hino. I've been struggling to find these older books, do you have any advice on where to look?

This was a fantastic video! Thank you as always for your amazing work and spreading your love of horror. I hope you are continuing to stay safe and well!

Great video! Watched it, then decided to watch it again lol. As someone who didn't care a bit about horror for the longest time, in the last few years I've started to experience more and more amazing horror that really made me re-define my relationship with the genre. I really appreciate you trying to expose more people to the new world of what horror has to offer and help other people feel the joy/dread for themselves. Have a great break! You deserve it :)

Thank you for introducing me to this manga!

Shonen usually takes center stage, but I appreciate horror

I hope your video will make so many other people look into Shuzo Oshimi's work. He is amazing and deserves a lot of love.

Nvm its working now

I'm not sure if its just me, but the link is taking me to your You tube homepage, not the new video (which isn't showing under your videos section)

I started reading this manga when it first came out and have experienced a feeling of dread and tension like nothing before! Thank you for this video on one of my fave manga to come out this past decade! Enjoy your time off!
