Soooooo this is a video I’ve really wanted to do for a while.
Last year I did my “Current State of Shonen Jump video”, and I remember at the time I wanted to try challenge myself with something new, and I thought a video specifically on Jump as a magazine would be different from anything else I'd done before, what I didn't know is that there was an entire community of people HYPER invested in following the movements of Shone Jump, and within hours there were reddit posts about how inaccurate the video was. It was humiliating. I think if I had known that there was a community full of people following that stuff I would have contacted them a lot sooner, but as it was, the video earned me a lot of heat and I felt pretty awful over it. I wasn’t sure if I should attempt another one lest I risk pissing off the same community a second time, but I also felt like I needed to own up to the videos failings, and make amends, and so I contacted Ruggia (the poster of that reddit post) who I mention in the video and luckily he agreed to work with me. (He was great btw and if you can do check out his blog)
When I rewatched the old video I also found it just wasn't that interesting visually, and so I wanted to try and push the visuals for this one a lot. You may have noticed that over the last couple of months I’ve been trying to figure out what’s the best way to depict Manga pages in video, and I see parts of this video as a culmination of that, especially the montage about a minute in, and the Promised Neverland/ DR Stone discussion at the end, it was a lot of work, a lot of cutting and clone stamping in photoshop, but I think some of the shots turned out pretty cool, and I’m looking forward to pushing this style of video making further.
I can’t say for sure how the videos going to go down, but I did my best to triple check all the numbers and facts, and poured a lot of love into its production.
Really hope you enjoy it.
Thanks again for the continued support <3
