Why You Should Watch Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor

A new video just went live on the channel!

This time we're talking about Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor!

I've been wanting to do a video about this one since I saw it early last year, its one of those series with a really hardcore following but not a whole not of main stream notoriety, so I'm hoping I can shine a spot light on it a little with this video.

I think one of the things I enjoy most about making videos like this is it always gives me a new appreciating for shows I already love, sometimes Ill watch a series and I wont necessarily "know" what it was about it that resonated so hard for me, and the closer I looked at Kaiji, the more I realized how much I got out of its themes. I think its one off those shows where the character writing is never overt, or the developments not really obvious, but then you go back and watch it again and its amazing how much the characters have changed since the first episode.

It was a lot of fun talking about the visuals of this one, as I know its a barrier to entry to a lot of people, so it was exciting thinking about how to tackle that.

Some thoughts I didnt get to put in the video: 

Tonegawas speech about human value from Ep 12(I think its ep 12..) is an amazing way pf establishing a characters viewpoint of the world.

I love how in the chairmans battle with Kaiji, he makes it sound like his inherent "luck" is what separates him from regular humans, its makes the gap between him and Kaiji feel as large as the one between Goku and Frieza. 

MAJOR SPOILER:I love how at the end of the series, Kaiji essentially has as much material value as he has at the start, but he now has friends and a since of purpose. Its a really sweet moment to end him.
