Have you observed this phenomenon? Have a video of it?

For the next Smarter Every Day episode, I'm going to be exploring the same water drops dancing along the surface of vibrating water that I observed back during this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7EiT9tKiig

If any of you have something in your life where this phenomenon naturally shows up I would love to get a few seconds of 1920x1080 video from you to include in the next video. For example, if I stand at a certain location in my shower, the water that falls to the floor of the shower will created this event. I've also witnessed it in a urinal (which I won't be showing).

Anyways, if you have any video of this even and you wouldn't mind me using it in SED (with credit to you on the screen) I would LOVE to get a copy. My thought is to say during the intro "yeah, this is a common phenomenon you may have witnessed in your coffee maker, in a soap dish.... (jumping between a few patron submitted videos videos)". Please shoot me a message if you feel like you'e seen this before and you're willing to let me use a few seconds of the footage. I've included a couple of still photos of the thing I'm talking about. One is from the high speed I shot for this upcoming video.

Regards,

Destin

Can Veritasium help you out? Just saw this video of him https://youtu.be/WIyTZDHuarQ

Do you have their email?

Smarter Every Day

I see this every time I start up my shower. You would be quite welcome to use my footage. https://goo.gl/photos/LuRDKycyS39rPkos8

Another Youtuber/Patreon user posted a video a month ago featuring this phenomena in awesome HD high speed video, taken with a camera he built himself(!). You should really check it out; https://youtu.be/Y_TFiA05tcc?t=827 (Youtube user tesla500)

Possibly Faraday Waves? Is it possible that the falling water creates a wave pattern that compresses the pooled water. The compression increases the density of the pooled water giving it a higher density. Meanwhile the spray is barely being held together by its cohesive forces so it has a lower density. Different densities separate like oil and water. When the non-cohesive forces on the droplet begin to subside and the wave form begins to diminish, the densities become similar enough for gravitational and cohesive forces to draw the droplet down into the puddle. A Tibetan singing bowl could produce similar results and could be automated for some interesting camerawork.

The liquid solder flux I use at work all the time does it quite readily, I could try get a good quality video of that.

Mid next week is what I"m shooting for.

That's a good example

Hey Destin! I see this any time I'm canoeing on relatively flat/calm water. Drops fall off the paddle as you swing it forwards and bounce & skitter across the water in a really cool, beautiful way. I don't have video of it, though.

Henry Reich

I've seen it so many times, but never did I record it...

Naiadryade asked about this phenomenon on a SciShow hangout and shared this link with us: https://youtu.be/B5oyIG3t-0c

This happens to me sometimes when I empty old IV fluids into the sink at work.

Maybe I can shoot the video you're asking for. When is the deadline? I know you work very quickly.
