HOLDING AN EXPLOSION (at 20,000 fps)

I always thought firing from the center was the best way to do it. Turns out I'm probably wrong.

HOLDING AN EXPLOSION (at 20,000 fps)

Destin. I'm a retired engineer teaching physics and chemistry at a HS in Kentucky. I've been using tater cannons to teach projectile motion for two years now. I've also had a student design team work on cannon design and they have found something that reminded me of SED #156. We've found that a vertically oriented combustion chamber may result in greater impulse at a given barrel length. I'd love to have your thoughts if your interested. Data is preliminary but promising.

This reminds me of a video I saw earlier in the year where they showed how the new Formula 1 engines have reinvented fuel efficiency using Turbulent Jet Ignition: https://vimeo.com/166635777 They solved a lot of the unburnt fuel problems you describe by sparking a mini-chamber which effectively injects flame into the main chamber for a smoother and more powerful burn.

That is fantastic!Hope I can use such a camera one day! It would be awesome!

Beyond awesome!

SO STINKING COOL! I love watching your stuff with my kids! love seeing their eyes light up!

Sehr geehrter Destin, you are awesome! The artistic quality of these pix is amazing. One of your best. Additionally: yeah. stick a glo in the dark stick into the potato the next time, or dip it in something flourescent and UVlight the heck out of the thing. Add long exposure to see the flightpath of the projectato.

Proper awesome! Next time try make the potato glow in the dark ;)

oh my great jeeping golly

Please tell your friends at Audible that I recommend them all the time because of you. I'll continue to tell my friends that your videos are not only worth watching, they're worth supporting. (It really was pretty, wasn't it?)

Nice work!

Yea! Great video. How about turning that gun into a turbo prop or something else with a spinning turbine in the middleπŸ˜„

Noice! Great vid Destin, keep em' coming!!!!!

This is definitely my new favorite SED video.

Awesome. I love how giddy you get after every shot. The slow motion video is incredible. Thanks for sharing.

Love that guy at the end!

Patrick Dillon

Sooooo cool!!

Dan

Man thats cool. What pipe did you use for the chamber? I'm always afraid of mine blowing up. I use Black ABS pipe.

Alex

Amazing video Destin! I loved the slow motion shots of the flame and how you explained why the air was flowing like it is. Great job, thanks!
