A Baffling Balloon Behavior

Very nice work! You prove that low budget isn't as important as creativity and enthusiasm! :)

I understood the process instantly but it is very cool and mystifying to many. Thanks.

I'm not gonna lie, that was pretty cool

22words.com featured the video as well. You can imagine my surprise when i was just scrolling along and then saw your video there. Made me really happy.

Just got to watch the video. (I was camping all weekend) Another great video. It's always great to see you interacting with your kids and getting them involved in the videos. Videos like this always brighten my (and plenty others') day, and I'm proud to be able to help you make them!

The Blaze News Network just tweeted a piece on this video! Way to Go! <a href="https://twitter.com/theblaze/status/458397481781297152" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://twitter.com/theblaze/status/458397481781297152</a>

This effect is subtle but there in buses in winter time. The fresh batch of cold air let in by the open doors is forced back when the bus drives.

Good eye man! Yeah, I saw that just before I flipped it live, but I decided to make it hot anyways! Thanks for the heads up!

Smarter Every Day

Wow! Great video!

Great video! Heads-up, though - the end of the video says Copyright 2013, not 2014. This might just be an older video that you hadn't uploaded yet (other recent ones have it right), but you might want to check that in the future. :D

Amazing video Destin, I look forward to meeting with you soon! Best, John Bryant

Yes, that was a great visual. The one with your dad (?) was great too!! Good laughs!

The "balloon pendulum" test at the end was fun!

Smarter Every Day

I had some cool footage of that, but my son wouldn't keep his head still!

I just love your videos!

I remember seeing this as a kid for the first time and my explaining it to me. I was so amazed by it and still love the counter intuitive effect it gives even as an adult! It'd be interesting to try with different balloon masses, balloon atmospheres and car atmospheres. Also it's be interesting to try with a neutral buoyancy balloon set up. In theory it should go nowhere! -Ben E from Pittsburgh

I discovered this helium behavior about thirty years ago when driving around with a ballon bouquet. You can have a continuous demonstration of the effect by shooting the video from front to back and driving in a tight circle.
