I wasted a bunch of time running around getting frustrated... haha The map misleads you a bit and you can't cycle to the map you need until you are standing in it. I can't remember the specifics but I think you have to go through a bunch of the cave systems under the Vatican that was part of the main quest line. Possibly the excavation area?
