Noclip's Machine Games Documentary Series Begins in August

Hey everyone,

Thanks for visiting our page here. It's once again time for one of those "our Patrons know this but we've not announced it officially yet" posts.

So, next month we'll be releasing a three part series focused around the work at Machine Games that we filmed earlier this year. Thanks to our patrons we were able to send a two camera crew to Uppsala Sweden (where I had to go to the ER - shoutout to the Swedish Healthcare system) to interview a bunch of the team about everything from the early Starbreeze days to their work on Wolfenstein all the way to development of the upcoming Indiana Jones DLC.

In the interest of letting each era have it's moment in the spotlight I've decided to split the production into three separate videos.

The first video will launch in mid August and is focused on the pre-history of Machine Games at Starbreeze Interactive. So plenty of reminising about Chronicles of Riddick, The Darkness and Enclave. It'll run about 30 minutes. Something to get you in the mood!

The second video is focused entirely on the work the studio did on their Wolfenstien series. From the art direction to writing, the work on the spinoffs and more. Expect that one to be around an hour long. We didn't get as much detail on this one as I thought we might have but I've got a bunch of development materials here through the various art books so we'll put in the work to write a script that fills in the blanks.

The third video dives into the development of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. From levels design to puzzle design, the writing, performance and more. We got a lot of really interesting insight from this one which I'm excited to get out there. It'll drop in early September once the Indiana Jones DLC "The Order of Giants" is out - as we have them talking about that and so those details will be under embargo I suspect.

These types of studio docs have been our bread and butter over the years and are honestly a lot of fun to produce. They take time as we have to research and capture a lot more games, and they usually involve a longer shoot schedule, but being able to produce a bunch of videos about the development of multiple games is really satisfying.

For those wondering our Disco Elysium series will be following this Machine Games series. Since our announcement in January we connected with a bunch more of the original team and have fleshed it out even more. Thanks for your patience with that - as you can imagine we don't want to fumble the ball on any of our projects, but DE is a particularly sensitive one.

We have some more unannounced docs in the pipeline but for now we'll leave it at that. We hope you're looking forward to these videos and if you have any suggestions for what studio we should visit next please stick them in the comments.

Thanks so much!

Danny

We didn't talk to anyone who worked on those sadly - we had so much to cover it was a bit outside our scope!

That's great to hear, I'm looking forward to this one! Just a quick question though, will there be any mention of the new levels Machine Games made for the Quake 1 + 2 remasters?
