Hello Patrons,
We're about to launch our Dwarf Fortress series on YouTube this week so I wanted to give you early access to the second episode. This one focuses on the 16 year period between the initial DF launch and right before they worked on the Steam Version. It introduces a few more players into the story including the DF community which has been a source of great information and entertainment for me these past few years.
Also we've gotten some of our new motion graphics into this early version too - they're a subtle change on the logo / lower thirds we've used for years - but it felt like we needed a cleaner version of them after all these years.
0:00 - Intro
01:19 - On a Boat
03:04 - Dwarf Fortress 101
06:50 - Update History
10:05 - The Dwarf Economy
13:38 - Community Party
17:00 - The Players
19:34 - Bugs
25:37 - The Adams Economy
27:04 - Annie
30:47 - The Scare
33:18 - CREDITS
We hope you enjoy it. Episode Three and Four will be live for you in Early Access over the next two weeks. Let us know what you think!
Danny
It's good to see the human side of game development and how everyone needs support regardless. Also great to see Annie and have her part valued.

Funnily enough I have them at 80% of Dan's original size. Let me demo them at 100% again and see. My 4k monitor is probably spoiling me. Appreciate the suggestion! - Danny

Loved this, and the previous! Looking forward to the last 2 installments. There's a tiny typo at the end when you're running the outro graphics with a link to the Patreon; it says "early acces"

This is shaping up to be one of the best docs you guys have done. Danny negotiating with the audience's attention span is very funny.
Can't wait to start sharing these episodes with friends and coworkers.

Dwarf Fortress is such a special game, so glad to see these two find success and get to share their story here. It’s hard to believe how much effort went into this game, and how much value people like me could pull from it, funded only by the donations of fans. Everything about the game and its story feels like it comes from a completely different era of the internet to me.

I'm really enjoying this doc, and I think the episodic nature really works for something that has such a long history.
Feel free to ignore, but may I make a suggestion on the new lower thirds? Make them 20-30% larger. The smaller text feels really small when viewed on a tv.

This is so good. I may never play it properly but I’m really happy this game exists and you’re documenting its development story. Great work, well done.
