[EARLY ACCESS] The Remarkable Legacy of DMA Design

UNLISTED YOUTUBE LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gz0znfP6New

Wowwwww. This was a lot of work. Hah!

Greatest Hits is fast becoming my favorite thing to do at Noclip and despite the amount of blood, sweat and tears required this one was a lot of fun to put together. This doc is around 70 minutes long and covers about 15 years of development at DMA Design. We talk about the early days, the rise of Lemmings, the back and forth over Body Harvest, the creation of Grand Theft Auto, the design of Grand Theft Auto 2, the many cancelled games and oddities that made it out - and we maybe even got some chat about Grand Theft Auto III in there. It's a beast, and while this is a 99% cut - it's coming in hot.

I've had a stressful few weeks with some real life stuff I've had to take time to manage so I'm putting this up for early access to get a temperature read from you folks before I take a final look myself. It could well be fine, but I suspect I may re-do some VO if I think it's need it after a little break. So please enjoy the (practically) finished doc and let me know all the feedback you have. I want to make sure this is as entertaining and accurate as possible.

I'll have a big address ready for all on Patrons on Christmas Day so keep an eye out for that too.

"The intro is the only reason any of you watch this show anyway." 😆😆😆 You couldn't be more wrong AND right at the same time.

Once again a really great documentary with an interesting and inspiring ending. I remember reading about the first game development degree at the university of dundee and wanting to be there. Only then, other universities in europe followed up. Amazing! Thank you very much for the opportunity to give some feedback! Here are some notes... I'm not so sure about your intro-gag: "it's the only reason any of you watch this show anyway". First: it's not true; and second: these inside jokes tend to not age well. (reminds me of the double-"starting to feel sorry for rollercoaster-tycoon-fans"-line in the rct doc.) It may work better with a simple cut after "roll the intro" ... even without your voice going down. Some people seem to find the animated backgrounds irritating; it may be helpful to slow them down, instead of making them darker. I really love the Moneyball-"it's a process"-inspired music in the early gta-1-part; Megan Carnes again? Right now, it is unclear who's to credit for what piece of music; maybe a info top right for an in-game-music-track would be helpful; the rest in the end credits. I hope we'll get a noclip Greatest Hits Soundtrack one day. I really love the fact that GTA III came out of the Space Station Silicon Valley team; it doesn't get more british than this. The Transition to the Obbe Vermeij interview is very entertaining, but obviously the cluttered screen isn't what you're going for, right? And finally... my name is missing in the credits. So I guess it's the wrong list of patrons without the production team tier. Merry Christmas!
