The Invasive Scourge of Teasel

Growing up, this species was everywhere. It's kind of maddening how prevalent it is along the freeways and on-ramps of the Midwest. In its native ecosystem, of course, it behaves entirely different, since it has the antagonistic insect and fungal species that it evolved with present.

Found this article on how this old world invasive plant was introduced in upstate NY: https://www.fllt.org/cl-our-prickly-relationship-with-the-teasel/

I'm glad this plant is native where I live because it's a stonking plant (I understand it may even be proto-carnivirous?). I'm not sure it's control mechanism here are insects and fungal species (I have never ever seen a half eaten or sickly looking teasel), but rather the ultra-competitive plants it has to grow alongside (things like nettles and bramble and docks, etc).
