"Ecology of Plants" by Gurevitch is a must-have
Added 2024-01-21 22:30:17 +0000 UTCThis textbook is now in my curriculum arsenal. I've emailed with the authors and hope to have them on the podcast when I am done with my first book. IT's currently 180 bucks (yes, insane) on Amazon for the third and most recent edition, but it can also be downloaded for free (and then read on a tablet) on www.libgen.is which is a venue I recommend for most books as buying these textbooks at cost doesn't even benefit the authors much, mostly just the publishers. I purchased Ecology of Plants a year ago and the price since then has jumped sixty bucks.
libgen.is is free and I've never had an issue with it being shady. you can find tons of good stuff on there. For tablets, I recommend a samsung galaxy s8 or 9. They're basically just a large-screened version of a smartphone. I refuse to use anything apple., but I'm sure an ipad would work fine, too. I use the app "ReadEra" and just download PDFs. It works great for me because I read a shit ton of papers, too.
"Ecology of Plants" explains so many key concepts and is a book you can pick up and start reading anywhere throughout the text. Plenty of cool explanations and examples of convergent evolution across various biomes, descriptions of biomes and plant communities from around the world, etc.
If you have any questions about downloading stuff on libgen, please comment below and I'll try to help. Plant systematics can be found on there, as can raven's biology of plants, as well as another one I just downloaded yesterday - Fundamentals of Soil Ecology.
All in all, i'm grateful to all of you for continuing to support me even though I haven't been posting much the last two weeks. I've been swamped with book stuff (of which I am most certainly stoked for. This is going to be a very good one, using my own autobiography and exploration into botany as a way to teach everything from plant identification to taxonomy, etc. with over 400 photographs from plant communities all over the globe. They've limited me to 288 pages which is a bummer, however, as I could easily fill twice that.
Thanks and be well.

Here's a link to used copies at a fraction of the price, this site is a book site aggregator, just shortened the link so it took up less space. Just picked up a copy of the 2nd ed for about US$24: http://tinyurl.com/ypdkj5ya

2024-01-22 07:58:45 +0000 UTCSo much exciting stuff coming down the pipeline for CPBBD! I can imagine between purchasing the new property/reserve and finishing up the book and everything else you have going on you must be burning it from both ends. Thanks for taking a minute to recommend the book.

2024-01-22 07:24:32 +0000 UTCWe are stoked for the book. I want to get a kobo reader. I've been looking at reviews for nonamazon readers and they seem like the best affordable readers. Tablets hurt my eyes. Y'all got to try scihub too for papers. There's also some decent browser extensions like unpaywall.

2024-01-22 01:58:22 +0000 UTCThanks for all the awesome content and suggestions mate. I only subscribe to a few creators pages and yours is by far the most value in terms of information, entertainment and quantity of output, keep up the good work! Hope the book is working out well, sounds like there might be a sequel in there ; )

2024-01-21 23:38:06 +0000 UTCSeriously, you do and give so much and produce a ton for all us CPBBD enthusiasts. Embrace your inner plant good sir, after a season (or in your case many seasons) of highly productive output it's important to go dormant for a while. All sorts of important decomposition & nutrient transfer is a happening during the seemingly quiet time. Wishing you well in efforts on the book! Thanks for book and app suggestions, too! 🌱🌿🌻🌵🌳🌲
