Lost Plants of Hispaniola

This Anastraphia picardae featured on the thumbnail was thought to be a Haitian endemic up until eight years ago. Here's the first video footage of it probably ever. Enjoy, fuckers. Keeping them coming. Uploading with a cell connection during the great Texas blackout of 2021.

What species in particular is this in regards to? Melocactus? Email me if you want. crimepaysbutbotanydoesnt@gmail.com

So I keep going back to the comments about how species are being sped toward extinction because they are being harvested or damaged in the wild. I'm curious, in the DR, have these always been known and used by the locals? Or is there some odd curiosity / demand by tourists, and is therefore a better way to make money in their economy? I may not be asking this clearly but I hope you know what I mean. Kind of like those that gather sage in the wild when they could grow it. Thanks.

¡Me encanta mucho! ¡Gracias pendejo!
