Karsts = fascinating
I keep trying to wrap my head around the flow of the dissolved rock material. Will all karsts eventually collapse? Will most soluble rock solution (given enough time) flow to the ocean? Then if sea levels rise again to where they were 100 million years ago, does the process start over again?
All rocks erode, but soluble rocks seem much more transient. Maybe the dramatic appearance of sinkholes and the ongoing discovery of new caves contributes to that perception. The reality is that the vast majority of karsts will not change significantly during our lifetimes.
