I wanted to recreate Blue Waterbed by cobaltreverie, so I tried blocking it out and sculpting it. I ended up making the entire scene but it didn't feel right, so I started over from the base model.
But then it hit me, project the art onto the model, and with some tweaks, I make this.
It's still very rough but its an idea of the power of projecting 2d art onto 3d models
